Hydrogen adsorption on CU (I)-exchanged zeolites
Altıparmak, İsmihan; İpek Torun, Bahar; Üner, Deniz; Department of Chemical Engineering (2019)
The growing population of the world increases the energy demand exponentially; necessitating utilization of a clean and renewable energy source. In this manner, H2 is a prominent candidate to be the future fuel by having gravimetrically high energy density, provided that a new lightweight, safe and economical onboard hydrogen storage system is developed for H2 fueled fuel cell vehicles. In this thesis, Cu(I)exchanged micro- and meso-porous zeolites (Cu(I)-[B]-ZSM-5, Cu(I)-[Al]-ZSM-5, mesoporous Cu(I)-[B]-ZS...

Hydrogen adsorption on Co2+-, Ni2+- exchanged zeolites ZSM-5 and US-Y
Sarohan, Nurkan; İpek Torun, Bahar; Department of Chemical Engineering (2022-8)
The increase in greenhouse gases motivates the search for renewable energy sources and carriers. Hydrogen is an attractive option used as an energy carrier due to its high gravimetric energy density (140 kJ/kg). Although hydrogen energy has been used in fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) at an increasing rate over the years, its storage is still the main concern. Zeolites, carbon-based materials, and metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are porous materials that store hydrogen through physical adsorption. In th...
Hydrogen adsorption on Co2+ - and Ni2+- exchanged -US-Y and -ZSM-5. A combined sorption, DR UV–Vis, synchrotron XRD and DFT study
Sarohan, Nurkan; Özbek, Murat Oluş; Kaya, Yasemin; Abdellatief, Mahmoud; İpek Torun, Bahar (2022-08-01)
Hydrogen adsorption on Co2+and Ni2+exchanged Ultrastable-Y (US–Y) and ZSM-5 are investigated experimentally at 298K and up to 50bar as well as theoretically. The experimentally calculated initial isosteric heat of H2adsorption values are between −28 and −32kJ/mol for Ni2+-ZSM-5, -16kJ/mol for Co2+-ZSM-5, -23kJ/mol for Ni2+-US-Y and −18kJ/mol for Co2+-US-Y. Due to the optimumheat of adsorptionvalues observed on Co2+and Ni2+exchanged US-Y and ZSM-5, a reversiblevolumetricH2storage capacity of 20g H2/L is achi...
Hydrogen absorption in magnesium based crystalline thin films
Akyildiz, Hasan; Ozenbas, Macit; Öztürk, Tayfur (2006-08-01)
A study is carried out for hydrogenation of Mg based thin films produced via thermal evaporation. Films produced were pure Mg, Mg capped with Au-Pd, Mg-Cu co-deposited and Mg-Cu multilayered. The films under the experimental conditions employed were crystalline with columnar grains with some degree of preferred orientation. In multi-component systems, the films in the as-deposited state were made of individual elements, but upon hydrogenation at temperatures greater than 473K, the elements react with each o...
