The purpose of this study was to analyze the variations in physical and technical performance parameters of professional soccer players according to match outcome (winning, drawing, and losing), team quality (according to their final ranking at the end of season: top-ranked, middle-ranked, and bottom-ranked), and quality of opposition (inferior and superior). The data was collected from 122 matches of the Turkish Super League during the 2019-2020 season using the semi-automatic multi-camera tracking system (Sentio Sports Analytics Company®). The results revealed that the winning teams performed greater high-intensity and high-speed activities, particularly when in possession, and the number of shots on target. The distance covered at high-intensity running, high-speed running and sprinting when in possession, and successful cross, shots on target, corner kicks, short pass rather than long pass, and the ball playing time were greater in top-ranked teams. The results also indicated that the percentage of ball possession, number of shots on target, and successful crosses were greater for both inferior and superior teams when they played against the inferior team. While both groups played against superior, high-intensity running distance out of possession and high-speed distance out of possession were greater. Further, total distance in possession, high-intensity distance in possession, number of successful passes were greater for superior teams while playing against an inferior opponent. The coaches, performance analysts, and applied practitioners should consider performance parameters that are influenced by contextual variables before designing training programs and match evaluations.
