Navier-Stokes analysis of subsonic flowfields over a missile configuration
Tuncer, İsmail Hakkı; VanDyken, RD (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), 1998-03-01)
Subsonic flowfields over a missile configuration are computed at high angles of attack ranging from 15 to 60 deg with the NASA Ames Research Center OVERFLOW Navier-Stokes solver. The computed flowfields are presented in terms of particle traces, helicity contours; and surface streamlines. The dow separation over the missile body, the development of leeward-side vortex patterns, and the canard and tail vortices and their interaction are identified. The computed normal force and pitching moment coefficients c...
Navier-Stokes computations of helicopter rotor flow fields
Yüksel, Ali Oğuz; Özyörük, Yusuf; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2017)
Helicopters are widely used for military and civilian purposes because of their unique capability of maneuvering including vertical take-off and landing. A helicopter rotor provides this capability of motion with rotating wings. Aerodynamic forces on rotor blades generate the thrust and torque. Hence, it is significant to predict pressure distributions on rotor blades in hover, climbing, descending, and forward flight, for assessing the helicopter performance. Not only this but acoustic radiation from helic...
Navier-Stokes calculations over swept wings
Şahin, Pınar; Özgen, Serkan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2006)
In this study, the non-equilibrium Johnson and King Turbulence Model (JK model) is implemented in a three-dimensional, Navier-Stokes flow solver. The main program is a structured Euler/Navier-Stokes flow solver in which spatial discretization is accomplished by a finite volume formulation and a multigrid technique is used as a convergence accelerator. The aim is the validation of this in-house developed CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) tool with this enhanced enlarged capability in order to obtain a relia...
The effect of hydrodynamic parameters on the production of Pickering emulsions in a baffled stirred tank
Abdulrasaq, Usman K.; Ayrancı Tansık, İnci (Wiley, 2019-10-01)
Pickering emulsions are potential industrial scale alternatives to surfactant-based emulsions. The stability of Pickering emulsions depends on the physicochemical nature of the liquid-particle interface and the hydrodynamic conditions of the production process. This article investigates the effect of hydrodynamic conditions on the drop size of concentrated Pickering emulsions in baffled stirred tanks. Oil in water emulsions composed of silicon oil, water, and hydrophilic glass beads as stabilizing particles...
