Comparison of Fine Grained and Coarse Grained Parallel Models in Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm
Baştürk, Alper; Akay, Rüştü; Kalınlı, Adem (2011-11-23)
Many optimization problems are generally complex and required to be solved in parallel architectures due to theircomputational costs. The main issue about the parallelism is that the parallel architectures may affect the performancebecause the original models are constructed based upon the sequential architectures. Therefore, the parallelizationapproaches should consider the efficiency in addition to reducing computational cost. The objective of this paper is two-fold.First goal is presenting a parallelizat...
Comparison of partial directed coherence and dynamic bayesian network approach for brain effective connectivity modeling using fMRI
Öğe, Oğuzhan Can; Ulusoy, İlkay; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
Two of the approaches attempting to model brain effective connectivity are compared. These methods are Partial Directed Coherence (PDC) and Dynamic Bayesian Network (DBN). PDC is based on linear and deterministic signal modelling. It is derived from the Granger Causality approach and underpinned by the Multivariate Auto Regressive (MVAR) model. On the other hand, DBN is based on probabilistic signal modelling, which gives DBN the ability of detecting nonlinear interactions between signals unlike all the oth...
Comparison of Bayesian MAP Estimation and Kalman Filter Methods in the Solution of Spatio-Temporal Inverse ECG Problem
Aydin, Umit; Serinağaoğlu Doğrusöz, Yeşim (2009-09-12)
In this study, spatial only, and spatio-temporal Bayesian Maximum a Posteriori (MAP) methods and an another spatio-temporal method, the Kalman filter approach, are used to solve the inverse electrocardiography (ECG) problem. Training sets are used to obtain the required a priori information for all methods. Two different approaches are employed to calculate the state transition matrix (STM), which maps the epicardial potentials in two consecutive time instants in the Kalman filter method. The first one uses...
Comparison of Fully Coupled and DecoupledModeling Results of Graphite Ablation In Hypersonic Flows
Onay, Oğuz; Eyi, Sinan (2019-09-20)
A thermochemical ablation modeling tool is developed for graphite material in air for reactive hypersonic flows. Multi-species and axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations are solved for the flow field analysis. Arrhennius type of relations are utilized for finite rate reactions and chemical equilibrium is assumed on the eroding wall of graphite material. Total of thirteen species are included in the analysis in which eight of them are the products of the graphitic material ablation. Flow field, surface thermoc...
