© 2022 Elsevier B.V.In this study, a new grade of Inconel 718 alloy (IN718) strengthened by nano-oxides has been designed and produced. The alloy composition of 0.3 wt% Y2O3 – IN718 has been determined using CALPHAD-based thermochemical modeling approach. Designed ODS-IN718 alloy is produced by Selective Laser Melting (SLM) method with various power and velocity values to determine the best process parameters for this system. The SLM parameters are optimized for the production of ODS-IN718 alloy. To dissolve the non-equilibrium phases, which are detrimental to the mechanical properties, and maximize the number densities of nano-oxide and other strengthening phases of γ'/γ″, various heat treatment processes are applied based on the thermochemical calculations. The samples which are solutionized at 1050 °C for 1 h followed by aging at 650 °C for 5 h exhibit the best microstructural and mechanical properties. Tensile tests demonstrate that the strength and ductility of the solutionized and aged samples are much improved compared to the standard solutionized and double aged samples due to the fine and uniform microstructure, especially at elevated temperatures. It is observed that experimental results are consistent with the thermochemical modeling calculations. This clearly shows the promise of thermochemical calculations incorporating various databases for designing new alloy systems with nano-oxide strengthening.

Design of a pintle injector
Erkal, Berksu; Aksel, Mehmet Haluk.; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2019)
Pintle injector design methodology for liquid oxygen/gaseous methane rocket engine is investigated with this study. Cold flow experimental work is conducted with water and air to investigate the characteristics of designed injectors by observing spray formations. 750N at maximum thrust with 3:1 throttle ability is chosen as mission requirement. 3 different reservoir geometries are manufactured and experimental investigation is conducted to ensure uniform and axisymmetric spray cone. After decision of the fi...
Effect of post-processing heat treatment on the mechanical properties of inconel 718 fabricated by selective laser melting
Özer, Seren; Dericioğlu, Arcan Fehmi; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2020)
In this study, effect of the building direction and post-processing heat treatments on the microstructure and high temperature mechanical properties of as-fabricatedInconel 718 alloys have been investigated. Inconel 718 samples were fabricated in two different building directions such that their longitudinalaxes wereeither parallel (horizontally built) or perpendicular (vertically built) to the building plate. During the selective laser melting (SLM)process, some undesired features can...
Effect of post fabrication aging treatment on the microstructure, crystallographic texture and elevated temperature mechanical properties of IN718 alloy fabricated by selective laser melting
Ozer, Seren; Bilgin, Güney Mert; Davut, Kemal; Esen, Ziya; Dericioğlu, Arcan Fehmi (2022-08-01)
© 2022 Elsevier B.V.The effect of building direction and post fabrication aging treatment on the microstructure, crystallographic texture and high temperature mechanical properties of Inconel 718 (IN718) alloy fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM) method was investigated. After aging, arc-shaped structures seen in as-fabricated samples disappeared and converted into a mixture of columnar and equiaxed grains. Nano-sized γ″ and/or γ′ precipitates were formed upon aging; however, MC type carbides and Lav...
Assessment of improved banded model for spectral thermal radiation in presence of non-gray particles in fluidized bed combustors
Yaşar, Mehmet Soner; Ozen, Guzide; Selçuk, Nevin; Külah, Görkem (2020-07-01)
In this study, Bordbar's banded model is coupled with a 3-D radiation model based on method of lines (MOL) solution of discrete ordinates method (DOM) for modeling of radiative heat transfer in freeboard of METU 0.3 MWt ABFBC test rig where a typical Turkish lignite is fired with and without fly ash recycling. The accuracy and the computational efficiency of the model were assessed by benchmarking its predictions against banded SLW model. Furthermore, in order to show the effect of gas composition on predic...
DEVELOPMENT OF LSF-BASED DUAL-PHASE CATHODES FOR INTERMEDIATE TEMPERATURE SOLID OXIDE FUEL CELLS
Babazadeh Dizaj, Ramin; Kalay, Yunus Eren; Öztürk, Tayfur; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2022-12-09)
In this thesis, a study was carried out on LSM-LSF composite cathodes for IT-solid oxide fuel cells. The study follows the previous work carried out on LSC113-LSC214 dual-phase and LSM/LSF/ScSZ composite cathodes, both developed for IT-SOFCs. The study involved the synthesis of active material, namely (La0.5Sr0.5)MnO3-δ (LSM), (La0.8Sr0.2)FeO3-δ (LSF), and Sc0.15Zr0.85O2-δ (ScSZ) via Pechini method. Symmetric cells were fabricated, and cathodes were characterized electrochemically via EIS measurements. For ...
