Cofiring lignite with hazelnut shell and cotton residue in a pilot-scale fluidized bed combustor
Gogebakan, Zuhal; Selçuk, Nevin (2008-05-01)
In this study, cofiring of high ash and sulfur content lignite with hazelnut shell and cotton residue was investigated in 0.3 MWt METU Atmospheric Bubbling Fluidized Bed Combustion (ABFBC) Test Rig in terms of combustion and emission performance of different fuel blends. The results reveal that cofiring of hazelnut shell and cotton residue with lignite increases the combustion efficiency and freeboard temperatures compared to those of lignite firing with limestone addition only. CO2 emission is not found se...

Degradable mulch films for agricultural purposes
Sisli, Zekiye; Usanmaz, Ali; Vargün, Elif; Department of Chemistry (2012)
The plastic mulch films, which are mostly made from LDPE, are used in order to increase the yields and to prevent the weed growth by covering the top of the soil by leaves or straw in nature. After a period, the mulch films turn into unmanageable quantities of soiled plastic films, which cause an environmental problem. Using degradable mulch films for agricultural purposes can be a solution for the environmental problems caused by the plastic mulch films. In this study, to introduce biodegradability to mulc...

Uncooled Infrared Detector And Methods For Manufacturing The Same
Akın, Tayfun (CIPO, 2010)
This disclosure discusses various methods for manufacturing uncooled infrared detectors by using foundry-defined silicon-on-insulator (SOI) complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) wafers, each of which may include a substrate layer, an insulation layer having a pixel region and a wall region surrounding the pixel region, a pixel structure formed on the pixel region of the insulation layer, a wall structure formed adjacent to the pixel structure and on the wall region of the insulation layer, a dielec...
