Kinetics of hydrogen adsorption and Desorption on silica-supported Pt, Rh, and Ru catalysts studied by solid state H-1 NMR
Savargaonkar, N; Üner, Deniz; Pruski, M; King, TS (2002-05-14)
The kinetics of adsorption and desorption of hydrogen on the multifaceted surfaces of silica-supported Pt, Rh, and Ru catalysts were studied by means of solid state H-1 NMR. Experiments with selective inversion of 1H magnetization and the formalism developed by Engelke et al. [J. Chem. Phys. 1994, 101 (9), 7262] were used to extract the adsorption and desorption rate constants and the apparent sticking coefficient. The sticking coefficients of hydrogen measured at 333 K at a surface coverage of 0.4 over 5% ...
Kinetics of sodium bicarbonate decomposition
Hu, W; Smith , JM; Doğu, Timur; Doğu, Gülşen (Wiley, 1986-9)
A thermal gravimetric method was used to measure rates of decomposition of NAHCO3 particles. Such decomposition produces a highly porous Na2Co3 that reacts with SO2 rapidly and completely at moderate temperatures. Hence, NaHCO3 decomposition provides a reactant with attractive features for SO2 removal. The rapid rate of decomposition combined with the high heat effect prevented determining intrinsic rates by constant temperature runs when the temperature level was above 400 K. However, rising‐temperature ru...
Kinetics of the osmotic hydration of chickpeas
Pinto, G; Esin, A (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2004-04-01)
An experiment examining the swelling of chickpeas as they are soaked in water is presented to introduce students to topics such as osmotic flow, mass transfer, diffusion, kinetics of hydration, modeling, and estimation of activation energy. The experiment may be performed by students at home, at the laboratory, or directly by the professor. Experimental data are analyzed using an empirical model (Peleg equation) for the description of moisture sorption curves for different foods soaked in water. The propose...

KINETICS OF MULTIPRODUCT ACIDOGENIC AND SOLVENTOGENIC BATCH FERMENTATIONS
OZILGEN, M (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1988-12-01)
Large amounts of data indicated that most of the metabolic processes of the acidogenic (acid producing) and the solventogenic (solvent producing) fermentations were regulated by product accumulation. A simple unstructured model simulated microbial growth, product formation and substrate utilization in six different fermentations, where five different microorganisms produced various combinations of ten different products. Specific growth rates of these microorganisms decreased proportionally with overall pro...
