© 2022 Wiley-VCH GmbH.Asymmetric and dense polyethersulfone (PES) and PES/ZIF-8 (Zeolitic Imidazole Framework-8) membranes were produced by nonsolvent induced phase inversion and solvent evaporation, respectively. The skin layer on the asymmetric membranes was prepared intentionally thick to observe the distribution of ZIF-8 and interfacial voids between ZIF-8 and PES, and to compare the state of ZIF-8 in the asymmetric membranes with that of in dense membranes prepared by solvent evaporation. All asymmetric membranes were prepared only by wet phase inversion to eliminate the effect of solvent evaporation on the skin layer morphology. For this purpose, the effect of composition of solvent and nonsolvent bath, ZIF-8 percentage and particle size was investigated. The skin layer on asymmetric and dense membranes prepared by SE (solvent evaporation) had very similar morphologies, CO2/CH4 and H2/CH4 ideal selectivities, however, the single gas permeabilities through asymmetric membranes were higher. This was attributed to the influence of ZIF-8 on the structure of continuous polymeric phase.

Investigation of the dynamic properties of ferroelectric crystals close to phase transitions
Kiracı, Ali; Erkoç, Şakir; Department of Physics (2015)
In this thesis we investigated the dynamical properties of some ferroelectric crystals and ceramics under various temperature and pressure conditions close to the phase transitions. In particular, we focused on the Raman frequencies, damping constant and the activation energy of soft modes with the pseudospin-phonon coupling in some ferroelectric crystals exhibiting phase transitions. We predicted the critical behavior of the frequency related to the order parameter (spontaneous polarization) in the ferroel...
A THERMODYNAMIC STUDY OF THE SYSTEM MGCL2-NACL-CACL2
Karakaya, İshak (1986-10-01)
The reversible EMF for the formation of MgCl2 in fused salts containing NaCl and CaCl2 was studied with a view to furthering the understanding of electrolytes of use in industrial magnesium electrolysis. Measurements were carried out in a cell with pure chlorine gas and Mg-Bi alloy as active electrode materials. The data were used to infer the Gibbs energy of mixing, the enthalpy of mixing and the entropy of mixing. These properties were used with other data to construct the liquidus surface of the ternary ...
Design of a ZVS QRC converter for educational test bench
Şengüzel, İsmail; Üçtuğ, Yıldırım; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2006)
In this thesis, the conventional pulse-width modulated (PWM) and zero-voltage switching (ZVS) quasi-resonant buck converters are analyzed and a variable-frequency control technique is proposed to regulate the output voltage due to the immediate input line and load changes. The quasi-resonant technique provides favorable switching conditions for active switch to reduce switching losses and electromagnetic interference (EMI). The method is based on shaping the voltage across the active switch in quasisinusoid...
Determination of boron in hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) varieties by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry and spectrophotometry
Simsek, A; Korkmaz, D; Velioglu, YS; Ataman, Osman Yavuz (2003-11-01)
Boron content of 16 Turkish hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) cultivars were determined by using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and Azomethine H. spectrophotometric method. The results varied between 13.8 and 22.2 mg/kg. No significant difference was observed between the results by the two methods (P > 0.05). However, the difference among boron content of hazelnut varieties was found to be significantly important (P<0.01). The highest boron content was in Mincane (20-22.2 mg...
A comparative study of electrocoagulation and coagulation of aqueous suspensions of kaolinite powders
Kilic, Mehtap Guelsuen; Hoşten, Çetin (2010-04-15)
Removal of kaolinite particles from their synthetically prepared suspensions was studied by electrocoagulation and coagulation to investigate the effect of such operating parameters as initial pH, coagulant dosage, applied voltage, current density, and time. Coagulation was more effective in a wider pH range (pH 5-8) than electrocoagulation which yielded optimum effectiveness in a relatively narrower pH range around 9, where, in both methods, these pH values corresponded to near-zero zeta potentials of kaol...
