RESPONSE OF STRUCTURES TO VARIOUS SEISMIC ENVIRONMENTS AND SUPPORTING MEDIA
Caner, Ferhun Cem; Mengi, Yalcin (1997-01-01)
In this parametric study, the effects of soil-structure interaction on the earthquake response of structures is demonstrated by including various types of supporting media and seismic environments in the analysis of a very simple structure representing residential building. The effect of the type of control point selected is also addressed. The analyses are performed in frequency space by employing the substructure method and non-dimensional variables. The transformation from the frequency to time space is ...
RESPONSE OF REINFORCED-CONCRETE COLUMNS TO SIMULATED SEISMIC LOADING
SAATCIOGLU, M; OZCEBE, G (1989-01-01)
Response of horizontal soil layers to earthquake motions.

Response of isolated structures under bi-directional excitations of near-field ground motions
Özdemir, Gökhan; Akyüz, Uğurhan; Department of Civil Engineering (2010)
Simplified methods of analysis described in codes and specifications for seismically isolated structures are always used either directly in special cases or for checking the results of nonlinear response history analysis (RHA). Important predictions for seismically isolated structures by simplified methods are the maximum displacements and base shears of the isolation system. In this study, the maximum isolator displacements and base shears determined by nonlinear RHA are compared with those determined by t...
Response of acoustic imaging systems using convergent leaky waves to cylindrical flaws
Günalp, Nilgün; Atalar, Abdullah (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 1989-9)
A theoretical study of imaging systems utilizing focused leaky surface acoustic waves (SAWs), and their response to certain kind of defects is presented. In particular, circular cylindrical inhomogeneities with axes perpendicular to the surface are considered. The scattering of the SAW from this cylinder is formulated with some approximations. The surface wave incident on the inhomogeneity is initially found as an angular spectrum of plane waves. However, to apply the boundary conditions at the cylindrical ...
