The Arkot Dag Melange in Arac area, central Turkey: Evidence of its origin within the geodynamic evolution of the Intra-Pontide suture zone
Goncuoglu, M. Cemal; Marroni, Michele; Pandolfi, Luca; Eller, Alessandro; Ottria, Giuseppe; Catanzariti, Rita; TEKİN, UĞUR KAĞAN; Sayıt, Kaan (Elsevier BV, 2014-05-01)
In northern Turkey, the Intra-Pontide suture zone is represented by an east-west trending belt of deformed and/or metamorphic units located at the boundary between the Istanbul-Zonguldak terrane to the north and the Sakarya terrane to the south. These units can be regarded as issued from the Intra-Pontide domain, whose geodynamic history is still a matter of debate. Along the Akpinar-Arac-Bayramoren geotraverse, located in central Turkey, an ophiolite-bearing melange known as the Arkot Dag Melange, is well-...
The Almacik mafic-ultramafic complex: exhumed Sakarya subcrustal mantle adjacent to the Istanbul Zone, NW Turkey
Bozkurt, Erdin; Satir, Muharrem; Crowley, Quentin G.; Ottley, Christian J. (2013-03-01)
The Almacik Mountains in northwestern Turkey expose an upper-amphibolite-facies complex consisting of alternating ultramafic (harzburgitic and websteritic) and mafic (metagabbroic) rock types. In the eastern part of this complex are island arc meta-tholeiites and transitional to calc-alkaline metabasites that are chemically quite similar to those of the Permo-Triassic Cele mafic complex north of Bolu, and this suggests an equivalence. However, much of the section exposes structurally deeper and chemically d...
The Tarakli Flysch in the Boyali area (Sakarya Terrane, northern Turkey): Implications for the tectonic history of the IntraPontide suture zone
Catanzariti, Rita; Ellero, Alessandro; Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal; Marroni, Michele; Ottria, Giuseppe; Pandolfi, Luca (2013-11-01)
In the Boyali area, northern Turkey, the tectonic units of the Istanbul-Zonguldak Terrane and the IntraPontide suture zone are thrust over the deposits at the top of the Sakarya Terrane, known as Tarakli Flysch. It consists of Early Maastrichtian-Middle Paleocene turbidite and mass-gravity deposits, whose source mainly corresponds to the Istanbul-Zonguldak Terrane, and, with a lesser extent, to the IntraPontide suture zone. These deposits were sedimented in a foredeep basin developed during the convergence ...
The Palu-Uluova Strike-Slip Basin in the East Anatolian Fault System, Turkey: Its Transition from the Palaeotectonic to Neotectonic Stage
Colak, Serap; AKSOY, ERCAN; Kocyigit, Ali; İNCEÖZ, MURAT (2012-07-01)
The East Anatolian fault system (EAFS) is the 80-km-wide, 700-km-long, NE-trending sinistral strike-slip fault system forming a seismically very active intracontinental transfom fault boundary. It is located between Karhova County in the northeast and Karatas-Samandag counties in the southwest, and forms the southeastern boundary of the Anatolian platelet. The Palu-Uluova basin is one of several strike-slip basins located along the EAFS. It is surrounded by several push-ups such as the Karaomerdagi, Mastard...
