An extended study on the alu insertion polymorphism in Anatolian human population
Şekeryapan, Ceran; Togan, İnci Zehra; Department of Biology (2005)
In the present study, for estimating the Central Asia contribution to the Anatolia, nine Alu insertion polymorphisms (ACE, PV92, FXIIIB, APO, A25, B65, TPA25, D1, HS4.32 ) in 100 individuals from Anatolia were examined. Alu insertion frequency for these loci were calculated as 0,410; 0,220; 0,579; 0,963; 0,067; 0,667; 0,390; 0,427; and 0,637 respectively and they were found to be in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (p<0,05). Observed insertion frequencies of each loci were compared with those of the previous obse...
An Assessment of the Spatial Distribution of Polychlorinated Biphenyl Contamination in Turkey
Gedik, Kadir; İmamoğlu, İpek (Wiley, 2010-02-01)
This study summarizes the relevant information regarding the spatial distribution of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in various environmental (e.g., soil, sediment, air, water) and biological (e.g., fish, mussel, adipose tissue, milk) media in Turkey. The information sources, used for this purpose, in addition to the scientific literature, were; official import records, governmental reports on monitoring of organochlorines, and reports prepared by international organizations. PCBs were never produced in Tu...

An econometric analysis of fertility transition in Turkey
Yaşıt, Bilge; Tansel, Aysıt; Department of Economics (2007)
Fertility levels are investigated in the thesis because significant changes have occurred recently in the fertility levels in Turkey. It is only after understanding people’s behavior then it is possible to develop appropriate social and governmental policies. It is possible to evaluate the fertility level declines from different points of view. There are two ...
