Subaerially exposed Late-Quaternary basinal shelf of the inner Mersin Bay, eastern Mediterranean: Paleoenvironmental evidence
Ergin, M (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1996-05-01)
High-resolution seismic profiles and petrographic data from surface and subsurface sediment samples from Mersin Bay, together with lithologic data from boreholes, were used to determine the origin and distribution of the pre- or early-Holocene unconformities in Mersin Bay (eastern Mediterranean). Reflectors corresponding to unconformities separate the younger, unconsolidated, marine transgressive sediments (Holocene) from the underlying, relatively coarser, consolidated sediments (Plio-Pleistocene). These u...
Subaqueous paleoseismological investigation in the varved sediments of Köyceğiz Lake (SW Anatolia)
Doğan, Ayşegül; Avşar, Ulaş; Department of Geological Engineering (2023-1-25)
Although on-fault trenching has been the most common paleoseismological technique, the number of lacustrine paleoseismic investigations has considerably increased in the last two decades. Lacustrine paleoseismology research commonly focuses on Mass Wasting Deposits (MWD) and Soft Sediment Deformation Structures (SSDS). Catchment Response (CR), which is defined as temporary amplification of erosion rates in catchments due to strong ground motions, is another sedimentary trace of paleoearthquakes in lakes. Th...
Micropaleontologic and stratigraphic study of three measureed sections in Haymana area, south of Ankara.

Sub-ophiolite metamorphic rocks from NW Anatolia, Turkey
Onen, AP; Hall, R (Wiley, 2000-09-01)
The metamorphic rocks from near Kutahya in north-west Anatolia record different stages in the history of closure of the Neo-Tethyan Izmir-Ankara-Erzincan ocean. Sub-ophiolite metamorphic rocks within the Tavsanli zone are a tectonically composite sequence of quartz-mica schists, amphibole schists, amphibolites and garnet amphibolites. They show increasing metamorphic grade towards the base of the ophiolite. A first metamorphic event, typical of sub-ophiolite metamorphic sole rocks, was characterized by high...
Microfacies analysis of upper devonian - lower carboniferous shallow water carbonates of the Yilanli formation in Zonguldak area, North Western, Turkey
Ahmed, Nouman; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Department of Geological Engineering (2016)
The Yılanlı Formation of Upper Devonian to Lower Carboniferous succession of the Zonguldak region were measured from Gökgöl section near Zonguldak city, NW Turkey. The studied section dominantly consists of limestone of grey – dark grey color with thin to thick beds of black shale and claystone. A variety of lithofacies identified in the studied section including limestone, dolomite, shale, claystone and mudstone. Nine microfacies are identified as grainstone, packstone, wackstone, mudstone, bindstone, ruds...
