Here, the effects of synthesized 24 different 1-pyrroline derivatives (PDs) containing substituted aryl sulfide moiety were investigated on human breast cancer cell lines. The viability of cells was assessed via MTT assay. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation was analyzed via fluorescent dye CM-H2DCFDA. Apoptotic cells were determined via flow cytometry. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-associated protein levels were analyzed via western blot analysis. Four of the PDs (PD-12, -14, -16 and -17) had great cytotoxic selectivity against breast cancer cells. Apoptotic cell death was induced by PDs via the generation of ROS. PDs significantly increased the GRP78, p-PEAK, p-eIF2α, and CHOP protein levels indicating ER stress in breast cancer cells. These results imply that newly synthesized PDs may be potential anticancer agents as they selectively inhibit breast cancer cells.

In vitro anticancer effect of tricyclic antidepressant nortriptyline on multiple myeloma
BİBER, Aysenur; DURUSU, Ipek Z.; Özen, Can (2018-01-01)
Drug repurposing has been proved to be an effective strategy to meet the urgent need for novel anticancer agents for multiple myeloma (MM) treatment. In this work, we aimed to investigate the anticancer effect and mechanism of tricyclic antidepressant nortriptyline (NTP) on the U266 MM cell line. The in vitro inhibitory effect of NTP at various doses and time points was studied. The combination potential of cisplatin-NTP was also investigated. Cell cycle analysis and three flow cytometric apoptosis assays w...
Lithocholic acid conjugated mPEG-b-PCL micelles for pH responsive delivery to breast cancer cells
Isik, Gulhan; Kızıltay, Aysel; Hasırcı, Nesrin; Tezcaner, Ayşen (2022-06-10)
© 2022 Elsevier B.V.In this study, micelles composed of methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(ε-caprolactone) copolymer (mPEG-b-PCL), which has ionically conjugated lithocholic acid (LCA) and providing pH sensitive release of LCA in acidic media, were prepared as drug carrier devices for cancer therapy. Micelles were produced by co-solvent evaporation method at two different temperatures (60 °C and 25 °C) and coded as LCA60**M and LCA25**M, respectively). Hydrodynamic diameters were 86.9 nm and 228.2 nm,...
Novel triazolothiadiazines act as potent anticancer agents in liver cancer cells through Akt and ASK-1 proteins
Aytac, Peri S.; Durmaz, Irem; Houston, Douglas R.; Atalay, Rengül; TOZKOPARAN KÖPRÜCÜ, BİRSEN (2016-02-15)
Newly designed triazolothiadiazines incorporating with structural motifs of nonsteroidal analgesic anti-inflammatory drugs were synthesized and screened for their bioactivity against epithelial cancer cells. Compounds with bioactivities less then similar to 5 mu M (IC50) were further analyzed and showed to induce apoptotic cell death and SubG(1) cell cycle arrest in liver cancer cells. Among this group, two compounds (1g and 1h) were then studied to identify the mechanism of action. These molecules triggere...
Innovation patterns in firms and intra-industry heterogeneity empirical evidence from Turkey
Yurtseven, Alp Eren; Pamukcu, Mehmet Teoman (2022-03-01)
This paper aims to explore sector-level sources of intra-industry heterogeneity of innovation patterns among Turkish firms. We constructed a taxonomy of innovative firms and explored the different modes of innovation. We then analyzed the sector-level determinants of intra-industry heterogeneity. Analysis results indicate that groups of firms within the same sector that display distinct innovation characteristics and firm's resource position, knowledge base, and cooperation behavior have a bearing on firms'...
Fabrication of low reflective nanopore-type black Si layer using one-step Ni-assisted chemical etching for Si solar cell application

Nanotextured Si fabricated through metal-assisted chemical etching (MACE) technique exhibits a promising potential for producing antireflective layer for photovoltaic (PV) application. In this study, a novel single-step nickel (Ni) assisted etching technique was applied to produce an antireflective, nonporous Si (black Si) in an aqueous solution containing hydrofluoric acid (HF), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and NiSO4 at 40 degrees C. Field emission scanning electron microscope was used to characterize differen...
