This dissertation analyses the concept of right to water as a collective right. It is comprised of three levels of abstraction. At the macro level, it considers the concept of collective right as the basic leitmotif. At the meso-level, it handles the concept of right to water, the subject-matter of the dissertation, which is problematized with a relational approach to the concept of primitive accumulation. It is alleged that one of the basic reasons for the emergence of right to water besides the water crisis is widespread processes and practices of primitive accumulation aimed at the enclosure of the water commons through manipulating the water-crisis. At the empirical-level, two case studies, one the analysis of the global water justice movement and the other, the analysis of the anti-hydroelectric power plant struggle in Fındıklı/Rize are conducted via qualitative method. Through such empirical analysis, different approaches to right-to-water are compared not only in the empirical sense but also in the theoretical sense. By this way, the theoritical arguments of the dissertation based on the critique of the liberal paradigm of human rights with specific reference to the right-to-water as well as building for a class-based conceptualization of collective right-to-water are reinforced with emprical data. Within this context, the dissertation aims to contribute to a critical reconceptualization of the right-to-water to augment its explanatory power for various right-to-water struggles.

BILIMSEL BILGININ TEORIYE BAĞLI ÖZNEL YAPISI: “EVRIM TEORILERI” ETKINLIĞI VE SONUÇLARI/THE STRUCTURE OF SUBJECTIVITY WITH THEORY-LADEN OF SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE: THE “EVOLUTION THEORIES” ACTIVITY AND ITS RESULTS
Bu çalışmanın a...
An analysis of the diffusion of structures and practices in a high-level bureaucratic organization in Turkey by using "new institutional theory"
Sert, Semih; Şimşek, Hasan; Department of Educational Sciences (2008)
This study analyzes the process of the diffusion of structures and practices in an organizational setting using the theory of new institutionalism as the theoretical basis. The explanation of the diffusion process has been subject to major variations due to epistemological and ontological reasons. Former theories of organizational reality looked at organizations as their sole units of analyses and accounted for the diffusion process accordingly; however, today, it is widely observed and accepted that organi...

In the framework of this examination, a comparative analysis is made betwee...
The structure of scientific community and its relevance to science ethics
Özdemir, Ece Özge; Sol, Ayhan; Department of Philosophy (2006)
The goal of this thesis is to argue that science is not value free on the grounds of a community based account of ethics. It is the peculiar feature of this model that ethics is a limitation on individual's freedom of action, and moral norms of a community reflect the structure of the community. I endeavour to resolve the problem, on an assumption that science is an activity of scientific community, that science ethics can be derived from the internal structure of scientific community. Therefore, this thesi...
On the significance of idealizations in sciene
Eyim, Ahmet; Sayan, Erdinç; Department of Philosophy (2005)
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the problems that use of idealizations in science leads to. Idealizations are simplifications and therefore false descriptions of how actual objects behave. Presence of idealizations in scientific theories is the reason for the problems in our understanding of confirmation of theories and also of scientific explanations. Nevertheless, idealizations are ubiquitous especially in natural sciences. Scientists have to employ idealizations because of the complexity of the ...
