Innovative approaches in Doherty amplifier design for higher efficiency and wider frequency bandwidth
Şahan, Necip; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
In the first phase of this thesis, the design optimizations of the bias adapted Doherty power (BA-DPA) and asymmetric Doherty power amplifier (ADPA) are presented for maximum efficiency criteria in the high power region. BA-DPA is analyzed by a novel approach in terms of efficiency. The ideal efficiency characteristics of BA-DPA with different bias adaptation schemes are illustrated. The maximum conduction angle and periphery requirement of the class-C biased peaking power amplifier (PPA) to realize fully l...
Novel multi-band metamaterials in microwave region with applications in antennas
Küçüksarı, Öznur; Sayan, Gönül; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2014)
This dissertation is focused on the design, fabrication, and characterization of multi-band metamaterials in microwave region with novel applications in antennas with the following outcomes: In the first part of dissertation, important concepts that have to be considered during the design, simulation and characterization of planar metamaterial arrays are investigated. All investigations are performed using the planar dual band nested U-ring resonator (2-NURR) metamaterial array that is a novel exemplar of t...
Innovative Thermal Management Concepts and Material Solutions for Future Space Vehicles
Esser, Burkard; Barcena, Jorge; Kuhn, Markus; Okan, Altug; Haynes, Lauren; Gianella, Sandro; Ortona, Alberto; Liedtke, Volker; Francesconi, Daniele; Tanno, Hideyuki (2016-11-01)
When entering a planetary atmosphere, space vehicles are exposed to extreme thermal loads. To protect the vehicle's interior, a thermal protection system is required. Future aerospace transportation demands solutions that exceed the performance of current systems and up-to-date material limits. Therefore, new and disruptive solutions must be envisaged to meet those extreme conditions. In the search of new solutions for sharp leading edges of future hypersonic reentry or transport vehicles, the THOR project,...
Perfect metamaterial absorber design for solar cell applications
Mulla, B.; Sabah, C. (2015-07-03)
A new perfect metamaterial absorber based on metal-dielectric layer combination is designed and investigated to be used in solar cell application. The designed structure is particularly presented in the range of solar spectrum in order to utilize the solar energy effectively. Parametric studies with respect to the dimensions of the structure are carried out to characterize the absorber. According to the results, it is found that the metamaterial absorber has 99.99% absorption at 403.5 THz. In addition, the ...
