Noticing Student Mathematical Thinking Within the Context of Lesson Study
GÜNER, Pınar; Akyüz, Didem (SAGE Publications, 2019-12-21)
The purpose of this study is to investigate a preservice middle school mathematics teacher's noticing of student mathematical thinking within the context of lesson study as a component of a teaching practicum course in a teacher education program. This study also examines how preservice teacher education experiences in the context of lesson study influence the noticing skill of the participant preservice teacher, Lisa. Results indicated that the lesson study process supported teacher noticing of student mat...
Tracking the Footprints of Nature of Science in the Path of Learning How to teach it

The findings indicated that, pre-service science teachers varied in reflective their nature of science un...
Breaking the trade-off between Q-factor and sensitivity for high-Q slot mode photonic crystal nanobeam cavity biosensors with optomechanical feedback
Erdil, Mertcan; Kocaman, Serdar (2019-01-01)
Here, a method to eliminate the trade-off between quality factor (Q-factor) and sensitivity of a one dimensional slot mode photonic crystal nanobeam cavity biosensor is presented. Applied method utilizes an optomechanical feedback mechanism in order to generate transverse gradient optical forces inside the cavity. A pump mode is utilized in order to generate the optical force, triggered by intrusion of analyte into the background medium. The amount of generated force is controlled via an interference mechan...
Investigating the Activities of Children toward a Smart Storytelling Toy
Kara, Nuri; Aydın, Cansu Çiğdem; Çağıltay, Kürşat (NATL YUNLIN UNIV SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY, TAIWAN, NO 123, SECTION 3, DAXUE RD, DOULIU CITY, YUNLIN COUNTY, TAIWAN, 2013-1)
This paper introduces StoryTech, a smart storytelling toy that features a virtual space, which includes computer-based graphics and characters, and a real space, which includes plush toys, background cards, and a communication interface. When children put real objects on the receiver panel, the computer program shows related backgrounds and characters on the screen. StoryTech encourages children to produce their own stories. Empirical research with a total of 90 children indicated that StoryTech contributed...
