Folic acid-conjugated polyethylene glycol-coated magnetic nanoparticles for doxorubicin delivery in cancer chemotherapy: Preparation, characterization and cytotoxicity on HeLa cell line
Erdem, Murat; Gündüz, Ufuk (2017-08-01)
Conventional chemotherapy is the most valid method to cope with cancer; however, it has serious drawbacks such as decrease in production of blood cells or inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract. These side effects occur since generally the drugs used in chemotherapy are distributed evenly within the body of the patient and cannot distinguish the cancer cells from the healthy ones. In this study, folic acid (FA)-conjugated, polyethylene-coated magnetic nanoparticles (FA-MNPs), and doxorubicin (Dox...
Enzymatic hydrolysis of orange bagasse and effect of filtration on lactic acid fermentation
Baltaci, Saadet Fatma; Hamamcı, Haluk (2020-04-01)
Along with the general trend of reducing waste in the agro-industrial sector, new methods are sought to utilize side or waste products. With this purpose, we examined the utilization of orange bagasse (OB) for Ca-lactate production via enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation. The hydrolysis of OB was carried in both dried and fresh forms with cellulolytic and pectinolytic enzymes to obtain a reasonable amount of fermentable sugars for further lactic acid fermentation. A novel industrial approach was studied t...
Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Fruit Peels and Other Lignocellulosic Biomass as a Source of Sugar
POCAN, Pelin; BAHÇEGÜL, Erinc; Öztop, Halil Mecit; Hamamcı, Haluk (2018-06-01)
Glucose and reducing sugars were obtained from corn cobs, orange and pomegranate peels by employing different enzymatic hydrolysis and pretreatment strategies. For the hydrolysis of corn cobs, effect of alkaline pretreatment was examined. Effect of cellobiase loading on hydrolysis was also investigated. Glucose content was measured using a Blood Glucose Monitor. When cellobiase was also added to hydrolysate, glucose and TRS yield increased from 20 and 34% respectively. Unlike corncobs, alkaline pretreatment...

Endogenous signal peptides in recombinant protein production by Pichia pastoris: From in-silico analysis to fermentation
Massahi, Aslan; Çalık, Pınar (2016-11-07)
For extracellular recombinant protein production, the efficiency of five endogenous secretion signal peptides (SPs) of Pichia pastoris, SP13 (MLSTILNIFILLLFIQASLQ), SP23 (MKILSALLLLFTLAFA), SP24 (MKVSTTKFLAVFLLVRLVCA), SP26 (MWSLFISGLLIFYPLVLG), SP34 (MRPVLSLLLLLASSVLA), selected based on their D-score which quantifies the signal peptide-ness of a given sequence segment, was investigated using recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) as the model protein. The expression was conducted under glyceraldehyde-3-p...
