Development of a multi-scenario simulation model for spare parts inventory optimization in mining operations
Şenses, Sena; Gölbaşı, Onur; Department of Mining Engineering (2021-8)
The growing market competition compels many industries to change their operational structures at strategic and operational levels dramatically. It has been recognized that inventory management requires continuous monitoring and improvement and it is vital for businesses to ensure smooth operations by avoiding production loss and reducing the overall cost of inventory. For various production companies operating in different industries, inventory is considered as one of the most expensive assets. Among differ...

Development of a material cutting model for haptic rendering applications
Üner, Görkem; Konukseven, Erhan İlhan; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2007)
Haptic devices and haptic rendering is an important topic in the burgeoning field of virtual reality applications. In this thesis, I describe the design and implementation of a cutting force model integrating a haptic device, the PHANToM, with a high powered computer. My goal was to build a six degree of freedom force model to allow user to interact with three dimensional deformable objects. Methods for haptic rendering including graphical rendering, collision detection and force feedback are illustrate...
Development of a scheduling methodology for flexible manufacturing management systems using fuzzy logic approach

Development of a laminar Navier-Stokes solver for incompressible flows using structured grids
Akın, Ayhan; Aksel, Mehmet Haluk; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2006)
A method to solve the Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible viscous flows is proposed. This method is SIMPLE (Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure Linked Equations) algorithm to iteratively solve the two-dimensional laminar steady momentum equations and based upon finite volume method on staggered grids. Numerical tests are performed on several cases of the flow in the lid-driven cavity, as well as of the flow after a backward-facing step with SIMPLE and SIMPLER (SIMPLE Revised) methods. Finally, results ...
