Integrated Vulnerability Assessment Platform (IVAP) is a new platform developed to produce detailed assessments of the seismic vulnerability of a region. The platform has a vulnerability assessment methodology that has three main parts; the first one is the generation of ground motion records for the region of interest. The ground motion records are generated based on the stochastic finite-fault simulation method. The second part is the modeling and analyzing of the structures in the region of interest. The inputs are a database containing all the structural parameters of the building population in the region and the ground motion records. Each structure is transformed into an equivalent single degree of freedom representation (ESDOF) by applying the static nonlinear pushover analysis and following ATC-40 Procedures. Following the transformation process, structural responses are calculated by using dynamic nonlinear time history analysis. The hysteretic model used in the analysis is the pinching model combined with all types of strength and stiffness deterioration modes under the cyclic loading. These deterioration modes give more details about the damage sustained during an earthquake. The third part is the generation of a vulnerability state report. The vulnerability state report contains details about the damage distribution sustained in the region and for the quantification of that damage distribution, it also contains 3D visualization of the aftermath. After verifying the source codes of the IVAP platform, a test run is performed to assess the vulnerability state of Erzincan city using the IVAP to highlight the platform capabilities.

Improving Coastal Vulnerability Assessments to Sea-Level Rise: A New Indicator-Based Methodology for Decision Makers
Özyurt Tarakcıoğlu, Gülizar; Ergin, Ayşen (2010-03-01)
Integration of impacts of sea-level rise to coastal zone management practices are performed through coastal vulnerability assessments. Out of the types of vulnerability assessments, a proposed model demonstrated that relative vulnerability of different coastal environments to sealevel rise may be quantified using basic information that includes coastal geomorphology, rate of sea-level rise, and past shoreline evolution for the National Assessment of Coastal Vulnerability to Sea-Level Rise for U.S. Coasts. T...
Development of integrated earthquake simulation system for Istanbul
Sahin, Abdurrahman; Şişman, Rafet; Askan Gündoğan, Ayşegül; Hori, Muneo (2016-07-12)
Recent advances in computing have brought a new and challenging way to tackle the earthquake hazard and disaster problems: integration of the seismic actions in the form of numerical models. For this purpose, integrated earthquake simulation (IES) has been developed in Japan, and now a new version is being developed in Turkey which targets Istanbul. This version of IES is being built in MATLAB and includes site response analysis and structural analysis of existing buildings with data obtained via GIS databa...
An integrated earthquake vulnerability assessment framework for urban areas
Duzgun, H. S. B.; Yücemen, Mehmet Semih; Kalaycıoğlu, Hediye Sibel; ÇELİK, KEZBAN; Kemec, S.; Ertugay, K.; Deniz, A. (2011-11-01)
In this paper, an integrated urban earthquake vulnerability assessment framework, which considers vulnerability of urban environment in a holistic manner and performs the vulnerability assessment for the neighborhood scale, is proposed. The main motivation behind this approach is the inability to implement existing vulnerability assessment methodologies for countries like Turkey, where the required data are usually missing or inadequate for the decision-makers in prioritization their limited resources for r...
A decision-support tool for risk and complexity assessment and visualization in construction projects
Dikmen Toker, İrem; Atasoy Özcan, Güzide; EROL, HACI HÜSEYİN; Kaya, Hazal Deniz; Birgönül, Mustafa Talat (2022-10-01)
© 2022 Elsevier B.V.Risk assessment in projects requires the integration of various information on project characteristics as well as external and internal sources of uncertainty and is based on assumptions about future and project vulnerability. Complexity is a major source of uncertainty that decreases the predictability of project outputs. In this research, the aim was to develop a decision-support tool that can estimate the level of risk and required contingency in a project by assessment of complexity ...
Network of European Research Infrastructures for Earthquake Risk Assessment and Mitigation(NERA)
Akkar, Sinan(2014-10-31)
The overall aim of NERA is to achieve a measurable improvement and a long-term impact in the assessment and reduction of the vulnerability of constructions and citizens to earthquakes. NERA will integrate the key research infrastructures in Europe to monitor earthquakes and assess their hazard and risk, and will combine expertise in observational and strong-motion seismology, modeling, geotechnical and earthquake engineering to develop activities to improve the use of infrastructures and facilitate the acce...
