Prof. Dr. Bilgin Kaftanoğlu

Prof. Dr. Bilgin Kaftanoğlu completed his first education at Mimar Kemal Primary School. He continued to TED Ankara College for middle and high school education. By the time he had completed 10th grade, he was nominated for AFS Scholarship for upper secondary school education in the USA by his school, and he graduated as a high honor student from Louis Park High School in Minnesota. He entered the Physical Engineering Department of the Ankara University as a non-degree student since university entrance exams had been closed when he returned to his home country in August 1956. However, he wanted to be a mechanical engineer. He rejected North Carolina State University’s full scholarship offer and he was accepted to the Middle East Technology Institute after he had took the entrance exam, which was announced in the autumn of 1956. He graduated from Middle East Technical University, Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1960 as the best performing student, and he is awarded by the Rector of the time Prof. Dr. W.H. Woolrich. He was also given a CENTO Fellowship by the UK for Master's degree and PhD at Imperial College of Science & Technology, University of London. In 1964, he began to work as a consultant at the Computer Center of the University of London. In 1965, he worked as a system expertise at International Computers Ltd. Company in London. After receiving his doctorate in 1966, he served as senior researcher at Bell Northern Research Laboratories in Ottawa, Canada. He also continued lecturing at Ottawa University. He worked at METU Department of Mechanical Engineering and performed various administrative duties. Between 1981 and 1984, he worked as a guest professor at Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Oklahoma State University. Since 2008, he has been working at the Department of Manufacturing Engineering at Atılım University.
