Prof. Dr. Yıldız Wasti

Prof Dr. Yıldız [Güvenç] Wasti was born in Erzurum in 1943. She completed her secondary education in Ankara at the Namık Kemal Middle School and the Girls’ Lycée. As a final year High School student she was sent by the Turkish Ministry of Education in 1960 as the Turkish delegate to the New York Herald Tribune World Youth Forum. She began university studies the same year at Middle East Technical University [METU] with a full scholarship sponsored by the Turkish Mobil Oil Company. She graduated as an Honour Student with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 1964 and a Master’s degree in 1965. Yıldız [Güvenç] Wasti joined the Civil Engineering Department at METU as a Research/Teaching Assistant the same year and was promoted to the rank of Lecturer in 1972. She completed her Doctorate at METU in 1976 and was raised to an Assistant Professorship. For about a year from 1977-1978 she was a Visiting Professor at the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan. She was appointed to the position of Associate Professor at METU in 1986 and became Full Professor in 1989, retiring from service in 2004. Married to Retired Prof. Dr. S.Tanvir Wasti, Yıldız Wasti has two grandchildren, and is the mother of Prof. Dr. S. Nazli Wasti Pamuksuz ve Prof. Dr. S. Arzu Wasti.
