Comparing the probing systems of coordinate measurement machine: Scanning probe versus touch-trigger probe

Bastas, Ali
An increasing level of research is focalising around the Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) as an important dimensional inspection instrumentation, that is utilised in a wide range of industrial metrology applications with its high precision measurement capabilities, flexibility and high measurement speed. The key functional section of the CMM is the probing system, that enables capturing of spatial coordinate data along measurement surfaces. This research compared the measurement performance parameters (measurement uncertainty and measuring time) of the scanning probing system against the touch-trigger probing system, conducting experiments for rectangular and spherical geometries on a CMM. As a result, it was concluded that there are no statistically significant differences between the scanning method uncertainty of scanning probing system and the touch-trigger measuring method uncertainty of touch-trigger probing system for investigated geometries. The scanning method was concluded as quicker with the disadvantage of relatively higher calibration time. Contributions are offered through extending current knowledge on CMM probing systems and guiding industrial CMM measurement strategies.

Enhancement of the reliability of MEMS shock sensors by adopting a dual-mass model
Fathalilou, Mohammad; Soltani, Kamran; Rezazadeh, Ghader; Ciğeroğlu, Ender (Elsevier BV, 2020-03-01)
MEMS shock sensors are widely used with applications ranging from aircraft to electrical measurement systems. They are designed to operate at the shocks above a predefined threshold level. The conventional single-mass switches may lose their reliability at shock levels smaller than the threshold, if experience smaller unwanted pulse duration. This paper has proposed a dual-mass switch with auxiliary mass-spring attached to the main system which increases the reliability of the sensor against the unwanted pu...
A new wireless asynchronous data communications module for industrial applications
EGE, Yavuz; Sensoy, Mehmet Gokhan; Kalender, Osman; Nazlibilek, Sedat; Citak, Hakan (Elsevier BV, 2013-10-01)
All the sensors such as temperature, humidity, and pressure used in industry provide analog outputs as inputs for their control units. Wireless transmission of the data has advantages on wired transmission such as USB port, parallel port and serial port and therefore has great importance for industrial applications. In this work, a new wireless asynchronous data communications module has been developed to send the earth magnetic field data around a ferromagnetic material detected by a KMZ51 AMR sensor. The ...
Three-dimensional numerical modelling of temporal and spatial pattern formation in a dc-driven gas discharge-semiconductor system
Rafatov, İsmail (IOP Publishing, 2016-12-01)
A three-dimensional numerical model is developed and applied to study the temporal and spatial pattern formation in the planar layered system, consisting of a glow discharge layer, coupled to a high ohmic semiconductor layer. The whole system is sandwiched between two planar electrodes, to which a dc voltage is applied.
Transformation Electromagnetics Based Analysis of Waveguides With Random Rough or Periodic Grooved Surfaces
Ozgun, Ozlem; Kuzuoğlu, Mustafa (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2013-02-01)
A computational model is introduced which employs transformation-based media to increase the computational performance of finite methods (such as finite element or finite difference methods) for analyzing waveguides with grooves or rough surfaces. Random behavior of the roughness is taken into account by utilizing the Monte Carlo technique, which is based on a set of random rough surfaces generated from Gaussian distribution. The main objective of the proposed approach is to create a single mesh, and to ana...
Application of acoustic emission for damage classification and assessment of corrosion in pre-stressed concrete pipes
Goldaran, Reza; Türer, Ahmet (Elsevier BV, 2020-08-01)
The present study describes the usage of the AE technique for detecting different types of damage in corrosion process with characterization of corresponding AE sources in pre-stressed concrete cylinder pipes. Firstly, several small-scale tests were implemented to specify the characteristics of AE sources including water absorption of concrete, hydrogen bubbles bursting and concrete cracks, as well as determining the appropriate sensors positions. Later on, a full-scale pre-stressed pipe was subjected to co...
