The collision of pure electromagnetic plane waves with collinear polarization in N-dimensional (N=2+n) Einstein-Maxwell theory is considered. A class of exact solutions for the higher dimensional Bell-Szekeres metric is obtained and its singularity structure is examined.

Search for top squarks and dark matter particles in opposite-charge dilepton final states at root s=13 TeV
Sirunyan, A. M.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2018-02-01)
A search for new physics is presented in final states with two oppositely charged leptons (electrons or muons), jets identified as originating from b quarks, and missing transverse momentum (p(T)(miss)). The search uses proton-proton collision data at root s = 13 TeV amounting to 35.9 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected using the CMS detector in 2016. Hypothetical signal events are efficiently separated from the dominant t (t) over bar background with requirements on p(T)(miss) and transverse-mass var...
Partial wave analysis of the first order Born amplitude of a Dirac particle in an Aharonov-Bohm potential
Shikakhwa, MS; Pak, Namık Kemal (American Physical Society (APS), 2003-05-15)
A partial wave analysis using the basis of the total angular momentum operator J(3) is carried out for the first order Born amplitude of a Dirac particle in an Aharonov-Bohm potential. It is demonstrated that the s partial wave contributes to the scattering amplitude in contrast with the case with scalar nonrelativistic particles. We suggest that this explains the fact that the first order Born amplitude of a Dirac particle coincides with the exact amplitude expanded to the same order, where it does not for...
Exact formulas for spherical photon orbits around Kerr black holes
Tavlayan, Aydın; Tekin, Bayram (American Physical Society (APS), 2020-11-01)
Exact formulas relating the radii of the spherical photon orbits to the black hole's rotation parameter and the effective inclination angle of the orbit have been known only for equatorial and polar orbits up to now. Here we provide exact formulas for nonequatorial orbits that lie between these extreme limits. For a given rotation parameter of the black hole, there is a critical inclination angle below which there are four null photon orbits two of which are in the exterior region. At the critical angle, th...
Search for new physics in final states with an energetic jet or a hadronically decaying W or Z boson and transverse momentum imbalance at root s=13 TeV
Sirunyan, A. M.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2018-05-01)
A search for new physics using events containing an imbalance in transverse momentum and one or more energetic jets arising from initial-state radiation or the hadronic decay of W or Z bosons is presented. A data sample of proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1), is used. The observed data are found to be in agreement with the expectation from standard model processes. The results are interpreted as ...
