Information about Copyright, Embargo and License

For your questions and feedbacks about copyright, embargo and license you can contact us via open@metu.edu.tr.

Copyright

Copyright is the legally provided rights on the products created by a person with all kinds of his/her intellectual efforts.

There is no need for registration for the copyright to emerge, as in the patent. Rights on the intellectual and artistic works arise with the production of the work. For detailed information: https://www.telifhaklari.gov.tr/Telif-Hakki-Nasil-Korunur

You can find out the publishing policies of your publisher and fund provider at Sherpa Romeo. Currently 80% of publishers allow archiving.

Embargo

Your work may need to be inaccessible for a certain period of time as per publisher policy. After you learn the embargo period determined by your publisher from Sherpa Romeo, you can choose the embargo period during the process of uploading the full text of your publication to OpenMETU. After the embargo period expires, your work will be accessible.

For Postgraduate Theses, the institute or faculty board may decide to postpone access to the thesis for six months or two years on the basis of the proposal of the thesis advisor and assent of the institute of the department.

These given confidentiality orders are not uploaded to OpenMETU. For further information "METU Theses Directive".

The copyright and embargo status of your uploaded publication is checked by the relevant department of the Library before it is made available.

METU Library reserves the right to withdraw the content in cases including but not limited to copyright infringement, privacy violation, or in cases where the content does not comply with the OpenMETU Content Guidelines.

License Options

Creative Commons licenses give everyone from individual creators to large institutions a standardized way to grant the public permission to use their creative work under copyright law. From the reuser’s perspective, the presence of a Creative Commons license on a copyrighted work answers the question, “What can I do with this work?” (https://creativecommons.org/about/cclicenses/)
