Acquisition of software intensive systems demands significant work on requirements prior to establishing the contract. The acquirer needs to understand the domain, needs, and constraints of the project clearly in order to make realistic size and effort estimates, and to have a solid foundation for defining contract requirements. In this study, an approach for requirements elicitation based on business processes is investigated. The approach proposes determination of requirements of a software intensive system to be acquired, according to the business objectives and base lining business processes. This study presents the implementation of the approach in a large innovative military application within the boundary of a project for Request for Proposal (RFP) preparation.

A Software benchmarking methodology for effort estimation
Nabi, Mina; Demirörs, Onur; Department of Information Systems (2012)
Software project managers usually use benchmarking repositories to estimate effort, cost, and duration of the software development which will be used to appropriately plan, monitor and control the project activities. In addition, precision of benchmarking repositories is a critical factor in software effort estimation process which plays subsequently a critical role in the success of the software development project. In order to construct such a precise benchmarking data repository, it is important to have ...
Investigation of the effects of reuse on software quality inan industrial setting
Deniz, Berkhan; Bilgen, Semih; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
Software reuse is a powerful tool in order to reduce development and maintenance time and cost. Any software life cycle product can be reused, not only fragments of source code. A high degree of reuse correlates with a low defect density. In the literature, many theoretical and empirical researches have examined the relationship of software reuse and quality. In this thesis, the effects of reuse on software quality are investigated in an industrial setting. Throughout this study, we worked with Turkey’s lea...
Using collaboration diagrams in component oriented modelin
Tuncel, Mehmet Burhan; Doğru, Ali Hikmet; Department of Computer Engineering (2006)
Component Oriented Software Engineering (COSE) seems to be the future of software engineering. Currently, COSEML is the only modeling language that completely supports the COSE approach. Abstract decomposition of the system and their representing components are shown in a hierarchy diagram to support the COSE process model. In COSEML, only static modeling is supported through this single diagram. However, software is about behavior and static modeling is not sufficient to describe the system. The aim of thi...
A Dynamic software configuration management system
Kandemir, Fatma Gülşah; Doğru, Ali Hikmet; Erbaş, Cengiz; Department of Computer Engineering (2012)
Each software project requires a specialized management to handle software development activities throughout the project life cycle successfully and efficiently. Software governance structures provide easy and efficient ways to handle software development activities. Software configuration management is an important software development activity, and while selecting the right strategy in configuration management, its conformity to the software governance should be considered as well. Software configuration ...
An Automated defect detection approach for cosmic functional size measurement
Yılmaz, Gökçen; Demirörs, Onur; Department of Information Systems (2012)
Software size measurement provides a basis for software project management and plays an important role for its activities such as project management estimations, process benchmarking, and quality control. As size can be measured with functional size measurement (FSM) methods in the early phases of the software projects, functionality is one of the most frequently used metric. On the other hand, FSMs are being criticized by being subjective. The main aim of this thesis is increasing the accuracy of the measu...
