Pollen morphology of Hymenosphace and Aethiopis sections of the genus Salvia (Lamiaceae) in Turkey
ÖZLER, HÜLYA; PEHLİVAN, SEVİL; Celep, Ferhat; Doğan, Musa; KAHRAMAN, AHMET; Fisne, Ahter Yavru; BAŞER, BİROL; Bagherpour, Safi (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, 2013-01-01)
Palynological characteristics of 30 Salvia taxa in sections Hymenosphace and Aethiopis from Turkey were investigated by light and scanning electron microscopy. S. aethiopis (sect. Aethiopis) has the smallest pollen while S. blepharochlaena (sect. Hymenosphace) has the largest pollen. The basic shape of the pollen grains in most taxa is suboblate, oblate-spheroidal, or prolate-spheroidal to spheroidal; however, subprolate pollen grains are occasionally are found in S. cassia of sect. Aethiopis. Hexacolpate p...
A new taxon of the genus Salvia (Lamiaceae) from Turkey
CELEP, FERHAT; Kahraman, Ahmet; Doğan, Musa (Botanical Garden Meise, 2011-01-01)
Background and aims Turkey is one of the major centers of diversity for Salvia, with 97 species of which 54% are endemic. The aims of this study are to give detailed taxonomical, morphological and ecological accounts of S. cadmica and S. smyrnaea.
Plant biotechnology in Turkey
Oeem, H. A. (2004-09-17)
Turkey's land area is 752 million square km. Of this land area 36% is cultivated and 6% is irrigated. 30% is covered with shrubs and forests. Major agricultural production is composed of (in million Ha): cereals (13.7), industrial plants (cotton, sugar beet, sunflower, tobacco) (2.65), legumes (1.6) and others (mainly vegetables and fruit trees). In Turkey, plant biotechnology research is conducted mainly by the universities and also by governmental agricultural research institutes. Total number of universi...
First record of Psylliostachys spicata (Plumbaginaceae), confirmation of Salvia pratensis (Lamiaceae) from Turkey, and taxonomic status of Salvia ertekinii
CELEP, FERHAT; Karabacak, Osman; Malekmohammadi, Maryam; Fidan, Mehmet; Doğan, Musa (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, 2016-01-01)
Psylliostachys spicata (Plumbaginaceae) is reported as a new genus record for Turkey; an amended species description is given. Bossier's record of Salvia pratensis (Lamiaceae) in Flora Orientalis is confirmed from Turkey. Additionally, the endemic Salvia ertekinii is reduced to a synonym of Salvia pinnata.
Human peripheral blood cells differentially recognize and respond to two distinct CpG motifs
Verthelyi, D; Ishii, KJ; Gürsel, Mayda; Takeshita, F; Klinman, DM (The American Association of Immunologists, 2001-02-15)
Oligodeoxynucleotides (ODN) that contain unmethylated CpG dinucleotides trigger a strong innate immune response in vertebrates. CpG ODN show promise as vaccine adjuvants, anti-allergens, and immunoprotective agents in animal models. Their transition to clinical use requires the identification of motifs that are optimally stimulatory in humans. Analysis of hundreds of novel ODN resulted in the identification and characterization of two structurally distinct "clusters" of immunostimulatory CpG ODN, One cluste...
