Unsteady aerodynamics of a pitching NACA 0012 airfoil at low Reynolds number
Kurtuluş, Dilek Funda (SAGE Publications, 2019-11-01)
The present paper aims to investigate numerically small amplitude oscillation of NACA 0012 airfoil at Re = 1000. The airfoil is sinusoidally pitching around the quarter chord point with 1 degrees pitch amplitude about a mean angle of attack. The computations are performed for mean angles of attack ranging from 0 degrees to 60 degrees and for pitching frequencies of 1 Hz and 4 Hz. The effect of the mean angle of attack and pitching frequency on the instantaneous forces as well as the vortex structure is inve...

UNSTEADY AERODYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF A DUAL-ELEMENT AIRFOIL
Tuncer, İsmail Hakkı (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), 1994-05-01)
Unsteady aerodynamic behavior and load characteristics of a VR-7 slat/airfoil combination oscillating sinusoidally between 5-25 deg have been studied. The unsteady, compressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved on a multiblock grid using an approximate factorization finite difference scheme. In the case of a single airfoil, a massive flow separation and formation of a strong vortex is observed. The vortex-induced suction and the shedding of the vortex into the wake is responsible for high aerodynamic load...
Unsteady aerodynamic forces estimation on a square cylinder by TR-PIV
Kurtuluş, Dilek Funda; Davıd, L. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2007-02-01)
The unsteady aerodynamic forces acting on a square cross-sectional cylinder are investigated by means of time-resolved particle image velocimetry (TR-PIV) at Reynolds number 4,900. The objective of the investigation is to prove the feasibility of non-intrusive force measurements around two-dimensional bodies. The PIV measurements performed at a rate of 1 kHz enable a time resolved (TR) description of the vortex shedding phenomenon occurring at 10 Hz and to follow the time evolution of vortex dominated wake....
