A Different Look at the Reasoning Process of Prospective Middle School Mathematics Teachers: Global Argumentation Structures
Erkek, Ozlem; Işıksal Bostan, Mine (Turkish Education Association, 2019-01-01)
Argumentation is an important part of education in different disciplines such as science teaching and psychology. Numerous research studies have revealed that the use of argumentation practices in courses have a positive impact on students' both cognitive (critical thinking, reasoning, etc.) and affective abilities. Recently, the number of studies on argumentation in the field of mathematics education has increased. It is expected that prospective teachers today are key elements of the argumentation process...
A FURTHER COMPARISON AND DISCUSSION OF SUNSHINE-BASED MODELS TO ESTIMATE GLOBAL SOLAR-RADIATION
Akınoğlu, Bülent Gültekin (Elsevier BV, 1990-10-01)
In this paper, five sunshine-based correlations, namely, Benson et al, Gopinathan, Ögelman et al, Zabara and our new quadratic correlation are evaluated in terms of predictive accuracy. The data for 67 stations, ranging in altitude between 3 and 2210 m and in latitude between 20.15 °S and 53.30 °N, have been used. The new solar constant 1367 W m−2 is used in the analysis. The overall results show that the correlations of Benson et al and Gopinathan fall in the second rank and that the difference in estimat...
A second look at the performance of neural networks for keystroke dynamics using a publicly available dataset
Uzun, Yasin; BIÇAKCI, KEMAL (2012-07-01)
Keystroke Dynamics, which is a biometric characteristic that depends on typing style of users, could be a viable alternative or a complementary technique for user authentication if tolerable error rates are achieved. Most of the earlier studies on Keystroke Dynamics were conducted with irreproducible evaluation conditions therefore comparing their experimental results are difficult, if not impossible. One of the few exceptions is the work done by Killourhy and Maxion, which made a dataset publicly available...
A Closer look into Turkish elementary teachers regarding education for sustainable development
Sağdıç, Ali; Şahin, Elvan; Department of Elementary Science and Mathematics Education (2013)
The main aims of the current study are five fold (1) to develop a valid scale for measuring beliefs about education for sustainable development, (2) to adapt the values on sustainable development scale to the context of Turkey, (3) to explore elementary teachers’ familiarity with and understanding of sustainable development, (4) to determine the elementary teachers’ values on sustainable development, (5) to investigate their beliefs about education for sustainable development. In addition, the barriers elem...
