Manufacture of macroporous calcium hydroxyapatite bioceramics
Engin, NO; Tas, AC (1999-01-01)
Trabecular bones of almost all vertebrate organisms basically consist of macroporous (55-70% interconnected porosity) bone mineral, i.e. calcium hydroxyapatite (HA: Ca-10(PO4)(6)(OH)(2)). The macroporosity observed in the trabecular bones then allows the ingrowth of the soft tissues and organic cells into the bone matrix. Sub-micron, chemically uniform, and high phase-purity HA powders produced in our laboratory were mixed, under vigorous ultrasonification, with methyl cellulose of appropriate amounts in th...
Production of boron nitride by carbothermic and mechanochemical methods, and nanotube formation
Camurlu, HE; Aydogdu, A; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali; Sevinc, N (2003-09-12)
The formation of hexagonal boron nitride by carbothermic reduction of boron oxide and nitridation has been examined. Experiments were conducted in the temperature range of 1100-1500degreesC for durations between 15-240 minutes. Products were examined by X-ray, SEM and chemical analysis. The results showed that the reaction proceeds through a gaseous boron containing species, which is most probably 13203(g). It was found that all of the carbon was consumed and formation of boron nitride was complete in 2 hou...
Production of micro and nano fibers from hazelnut skin and utilization in cakes
Çıkrıkçı, Sevil; Mert, Behiç; Department of Food Engineering (2013)
The main objective of this study was to investigate micro and nano hazelnut skin fibers and their effects on quality, texture and staling of cakes. In the first part of the study, microstructural properties of cocoa powder/ hazelnut skin samples and rheological properties of cake batter with different percentages (0%, 10%, 15%, 20%) of cocoa powder/ hazelnut skin were evaluated. Herschel–Bulkley model was found to explain the flow behaviors of dough formulations. The highest elastic (G') and loss (G'') modu...
Fabrication of microporous ceramics from ceramic powders of quartz-natural zeolite mixtures
San, O; Abali, S; Hoşten, Çetin (Elsevier BV, 2003-01-01)
The possibility of producing ceramic powders suitable for the fabrication of microporous filters was investigated through the thermal treatment of the powder mixtures of a high-purity (99.09% SiO2) quartz and clinoptilolite type of natural zeolite. The quartz and zeolite, mixed in the ratio of 3:1 by weight, was wet ground in a ball mill, the powder was sieved on a 90-mum screen, and the undersize was dried and sintered in the powder form at the temperatures of 1000, 1100 and 1200degreesC for 7 h in an air ...
