SOUTHERN MENDERES MASSIF - AN INCIPIENT METAMORPHIC CORE COMPLEX IN WESTERN ANATOLIA, TURKEY
Bozkurt, Erdin (Geological Society of London, 1994-03-01)
In the southern sector of the Menderes Massif, north of Selimiye (Milas) augen gneisses interpreted as a deformed peraluminous granite have been dynamothermally metamorphosed and are surrounded by and intrude a regionally metamorphosed Palaeozoic 'envelope'. The granitic rocks exhibit a moderately-dipping mylonitic foliation and NNE-SSW- trending mineral elongation lineation. The progressive deformation of the granitic rocks produces a structural sequence typical of an extensional shear zone marked, from bo...
Eastern Termination of the Subducting African Lithosphere Beneath Anatolia Imaged by Teleseismic P wave Tomography
Biryol, C. Berk; Zandt, George; Beck, Susan L.; Özacar, Atilla Arda; Schmandt, Brandon (2009-12-14)
A variety of complex tectonic processes are active in Anatolia. Collision related plateau formation dominates the present lithospheric deformation toward the east and slab roll-back related back-arc extension takes place toward the west. The two zones are connected at the northern part of the region by strike-slip faulting along the right-lateral North Anatolian Fault. Recent seismological studies show that the Eastern Anatolian Plateau (EAP) is supported by hot asthenosphereric material that was emplaced b...
Eastern Mediterranean sapropels: chemical structure, deposition and relation to oil-shales
Dick, C; Ediger, V; Fabbri, D; Gaines, AF; Love, GD; McGinn, A; McRae, C; Murray, IP; Nicol, BJ; Snape, CE (Elsevier BV, 2002-03-01)
Ten sapropels, deposited in three different basins of the eastern Mediterranean since the Miocene and selected from cores of the Deep Sea Drilling Programme have been characterised by elemental analysis; fluorescence, infra-red and NMR spectrometry, by pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and by catalytic hydrogenation at moderately high pressure. The sapropels are Types I-II kerogens, which have been oxidised, probably by a front experienced, since their deposition. Only one, from the Cretan basi...
EASTERN ANATOLIA OBSERVATORY (DAG): RECENT DEVELOPMENTS AND A PROSPECTIVE OBSERVING SITE FOR ROBOTIC TELESCOPES
YEŞİLYAPRAK, Cahit; Yerli, Sinan Kaan; KESKİN, ONUR (2015-10-02)
This document (Eastern Anatolia Observatory (DAG) is the new observatory of Turkey with the optical and near-infrared largest telescope (4 m class) and its robust observing site infrastructure. This national project consists of three phases with DAG (Telescope, Enclosure, Buildings and Infrastructures), FPI (Focal Plane Instruments and Adaptive Optics) and MCP (Mirror Coating Plant) and is supported by the Ministry of Development of Turkey. The tenders of telescope and enclosure have been made and almost al...
