Post-solidification Effects in Directionally Grown Al-AgAl-AlCu Eutectics
Sargın, Irmak; Genau, A. L.; Napolitano, R. E. (2016-02-01)
The post-solidification reactions that take place behind the growth front in directionally solidified ternary eutectic Al-Ag-Cu alloys have a marked influence on the observed room temperature microstructure, obscuring many aspects of the solidification morphology present at the growth front. Quantifying these solid-state processes is necessary for proper interpretation of ex-situ microstructure as an indicator of growth dynamics and operating point selection. In this study, the directional growth structure ...
OPERA neutrino oscillation results
Güler, Ali Murat (2012-11-01)
The OPERA experiment was designed to perform the first detection of v(mu) -> v(T) neutrino oscillations in a direct appearance mode. We present the analysis results of the 2008-2009 statistics corresponding to 4.88 x 10 19 p.o.t. In this sample, one v(T) candidate event has been observed in the T -> h channel. The statistical significance of this observation is estimated to be 95%.
gamma-Gruneisen relations close to lambda-phase transitions in NH4Cl
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (1996-08-01)
In this study we have correlated the frequency shifts of the acoustic modes to the volume changes by means of our gamma-Gruneisen relations near the lambda-phase transitions in NH4Cl. Using the acoustic frequencies and the length-change data for NH4Cl from the literature, we first calculated the Gruneisen gamma values for the LA modes along the (100) and (110) directions and for the TA mode along the (110) direction. We then predicted the acoustic mode frequencies across the lambda-phase transitions in NH4Cl.
Rebound effects for households’ energy efficient vehicles
Yüksel, Dilan.; Sarı, Ramazan; Department of Earth System Science (2019)
Energy efficiency is one of the most critical dimensions in energy consumption and the technologies improving energy efficiency thus decreasing energy demand as well as greenhouse gases have been becoming widespread in recent years. On the other hand, the fact that the savings owing to the improvements in energy efficiency would not happen as expected indicates a phenomenon which has been being addressed for a long a time in the literature and practice: Rebound Effect. This concept emphasizes that the cost ...
