Semi-analytical solution of MHD flow through boundary integrals on the pipe wall
Tezer, Münevver; Bozkaya, Canan (Wiley, 2019-05-01)
A mathematical model is given for the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) pipe flow as an inner Dirichlet problem in a 2D circular cross section of the pipe, coupled with an outer Dirichlet or Neumann magnetic problem. Inner Dirichlet problem is given as the coupled convection-diffusion equations for the velocity and the induced current of the fluid coupling also to the outer problem, which is defined with the Laplace equation for the induced magnetic field of the exterior region with either Dirichlet or Neumann boun...
Semi-analytical study of free vibration characteristics of shear deformable filament wound anisotropic shells of revolution
Kayran, Altan (Elsevier BV, 2009-01-09)
Free vibration characteristics of filament wound anisotropic shells of revolution are investigated by using multisegment numerical integration technique in combination with a modified frequency trial method. The applicability of multisegment numerical integration technique is extended to the solution of free vibration problem of anisotropic composite shells of revolution through the use of finite exponential Fourier transform of the fundamental shell equations. The governing shell equations comprise the ful...
Semi-parametric Estimation of Count Time Series
Ghahramani, Melody; Dag, Osman; de Leon, Alexander R. (2014-06-27)
A flexible semi-parametric model for autocorrelated count data is proposed. Unlike earlier models available in the literature, the model does not require construction of a likelihood function and only entails the specification of the first two conditional moments. An estimating function approach is adopted for the model. The efficiency of the estimates is investigated numerically against competing estimates via simulation studies.
Semi-analytical calculations of the secular evolution of 4-body systems
Kıroğlu, Fulya; Gürkan, Mehmet Atakan; Department of Physics (2019)
The observations of a large fraction of Sun-like stars in multiple-star systems and planet-forming circumstellar disks’ existence around them have triggered a renewed interest in the dynamical evolution and stability of planetary systems in binaries. In this thesis, we study the secular evolution of quadruple (N = 4) systems consisting of two planets around a member of a binary star system where the Kozai-Lidov mechanism plays a role. The standard Kozai-Lidov mechanism has been studied extensively for hiera...
Semi-empirical SCF-MO calculations for the structural and electronic properties of single-wall InP nanotubes
Erkoç, Şakir (Elsevier BV, 2004-05-14)
The structural and electronic properties of armchair and zigzag models of single-wall InP nanotubes have been investigated qualitatively by performing semi-empirical self-consistent-field molecular orbital calculations at the level of PM3 method within the RHF formulation. It has been found that these structures are stable and they may be used as conducting nanowires in nanodevice and optoelectronic applications.
