Genetic structure of modern and ancient swordfish populations from coasts of Turkey
Yüncü, Eren; Togan, İnci Zehra; Department of Biology (2017)
In this study, partial mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and 8 microsatellite loci of swordfish collected from Northern Levantine Sea and Northern Aegean Sea were analyzed. Also same mtDNA region of ancient swordfish samples unearthed from Yenikapı excavation were sequenced. Obtained sequences were evaluated comparatively with the sequences from Balearic Sea, Ligurian Sea, Ionian Sea and Southern Aegean Sea, available in databases. Analysis of the molecular variance revealed a significant differentiation between We...

Genetic structures of salix alba and salix excelsa populations from two major river systems in Turkey
Özdemir Değirmenci, Funda; Kaya, Zeki; Department of Biology (2017)
Salix alba (white willow) is an indicator species and an important component of an healthy riparian ecosystem with great renewable energy potential in Turkey. It is used as one of the most effective phytoremediation tool in the world for river cleaning and ecosystem rehabilitation efforts. Genetic structure of Salix alba populations in two river systems (Göksu and Kızılırmak Rivers) in Turkey were studied with the use of 20 microsatellites markers to provide information for effective conservation and breedi...
Genetic Structure and Variation of Van Cats
ALTUNOK, VAHDETTİN; Yüksek, Nazmi; Berkman, Ceren C.; Agaoglu, Zahid Tevfik; Togan, İnci Zehra (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2011-08-01)
To determine the genetic structure and variation of Van cats and some other cats, seven enzyme loci were examined using horizontal starch gel electrophoresis. ME bands were observed for the first time in cats. For the enzyme loci CA (1) , SOD, GPI, and GOT, neither the individual Van cats nor the specimens of other cat species exhibited any variation. These enzymes presented identical bands, all of which were homozygous. With respect to the PGD, ME, and ESD loci, however, genetic variation was observed in a...
