Journey into Doctoral Candidacy: A Grounded Theory Study of Doctoral Qualification Exam Process
Burakgazi, Sevinc Gelmez; Yıldırım, Ali (2017-01-01)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the process doctoral students go through in qualification exam. Within a grounded theory design, a series of in-depth interviews were carried out with six doctoral candidates to inquire into their thoughts and experiences. Data collection started four months before the qualification exam and ended approximately a month after the exam had been taken. A total of 127 pages of interview transcripts were produced as a result of interviews. The data from these interview...

Dünyanın Sonuna Yolculuk: The End Of F..ing World Dizisinin Psikanalitik Okuması
Deniz, İbrahim (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (Ankara, Turkey), 2019-10-1)
The End of F…ing World, psikopatolojik özellikler gösteren iki ergen karakterin, evden kaçmaları ve sonrasında yaşadıklarının anlatıldığı bir dizidir.
Practical Experiences About Reservoir Monitoring in Alasehir Geothermal Field
Aydın, Hakkı; Akın, Serhat; Tezel, Seray (2018-02-14)
Alaşehir geothermal area that is located in southern part of the Alaşehir Graben is one the important geothermal areas in Turkey. Currently, more than 6 operators are exploiting this field on a strictly competitive, and largely confidential, basis without significant exchange of resource information among them. This paper discusses monitoring of the response of part of Alaşehir geothermal system to large scale exploitation. In this regard, temperature and pressure of the reservoir, steam flowrate, brine flo...
Curiosity-driven learning of traversability affordance on a mobile robot
Ugur, Emre; Dogar, Mehmet R.; Cakmak, Maya; Şahin, Erol (2007-07-13)
The concept of affordances, as proposed by J.J. Gibson, refers to the relationship between the organism and its environment and has become popular in autonomous robot control. The learning of affordances in autonomous robots, however, typically requires a large set of training data obtained from the interactions of the robot with its environment. Therefore, the learning process is not only time-consuming, and costly but is also risky since some of the interactions may inflict damage on the robot. In this pa...
