CHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION AND SPECIATION OF THE MACRO NUTRIENTS IN THE ATMOSPHERIC PARTICLES, DRY AND WET DEPOSITION MODES OVER THE EASTERN MEDITERRENEAN: SOURCE AREAS, BIO-AVAILABILITY AND IMPACT OF ATMOSPHERIC INPUTS ON MARINE PRODUCTIVITY
Nehir, Münevver; Koçak , Mustafa; Department of Oceanography (2016-10-10)
Two stage aerosol (coarse: PM10-2.5 and fine: PM2.5) and rainwater samples were collected at a rural site (Erdemli) located on the coast of the eastern Mediterranean, between January 2014 and April 2015. Concentrations of the water-soluble nitrogen species (organic nitrogen (WSON), nitrate, ammonium, total nitrogen (WSTN) and urea) were measured in a total of 740 aerosol and 23 rainwater samples. Among the nitrogen species, WSON (24.6 ± 16.3 nmol N m-3) denoted the highest arithmetic mean and followed by am...

Chemical characteristics of atmospheric aerosols in a rural site of northwestern Anatolia
Yenisoy-Karakas, S; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal (1997-09-01)
Aerosol samples were collected daily at a rural mountainous site of northwestern Anatolia during September 1993-April 1994. Concentrations of SO42-, NO3-, Cl-, NH4+, Na+, K+, Ca2+ and Mg2+ have been determined. Sulfate made up the 30% analyzed aerosol mass with a 2.14 mu gm(-3) average concentration. Measured concentrations were comparable with other rural area data except Ca2+ which was higher in our station with an average concentration of 1.12 mu gm(-3). Monthly concentrations of major ions fluctuate dep...
Chemical composition of Eastern Mediterranean aerosol and precipitation: Indications of long-range transport

Daily aerosol and wet-only precipitation samples were collected, between January 1992 and January 1994 at a permanent station established on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Collected aerosol and rain samples were analyzed for major ions and a host of trace elements using a combination of analytical techniques, including ion chromatography, atomic absorbtion spectrometry and instrumental neutron activation analysis. The results have demonstrated;hat concentrations of parameters studied are higher than cor...
Chemical concentrations and elements size distributions of aerosols in the eastern Mediterranean during strong dust storms
Gullu, GH; Olmez, I; Tuncel, G (1995-10-07)
In 1993 three strong dust episodes occurred in the Eastern Mediterranean Basin during the rainy season September and October. During dust episodes, and at normal conditions in order to compare dust and non-dust period, daily PM-10 aerosol samples and weekly six stage size separated aerosol samples were collected at Antalya, an eastern Mediterranean location. Both PM-10 and impactor samples were analysed for 40 elements by instrumental neutron activation analysis. Wind trajectories were examined and the dust...
