Integer Linear Programming Solution for the Multiple Query Optimization Problem
Dokeroglu, Tansel; Bayir, Murat Ali; Coşar, Ahmet (2014-10-28)
Multiple Query Optimization (MQO) is a technique for processing a batch of queries in such a way that shared tasks in these queries are executed only once, resulting in significant savings in the total evaluation. The first phase of MQO requires producing alternative query execution plans so that the shared tasks between queries are identified and maximized. The second phase of MQO is an optimization problem where the goal is selecting exactly one of the alternative plans for each query to minimize the tota...
Integer linear programming based solutions for construction of biological networks
Eren Özsoy, Öykü; Can, Tolga; Department of Health Informatics (2014)
Inference of gene regulatory or signaling networks from perturbation experiments and gene expression assays is one of the challenging problems in bioinformatics. Recently, the inference problem has been formulated as a reference network editing problem and it has been show that finding the minimum number of edit operations on a reference network in order to comply with perturbation experiments is an NP-complete problem. In this dissertation, we propose linear programming based solutions for reconstruction o...
Integer Programming and Heuristic Approaches for the Dominating Tree Problem
Akifoğlu, Selin; Tural, Mustafa Kemal (null; 2016-07-03)
Let G=(V, E) be a simple undirected edge-weighted graph, where V and E denote the set of vertices and edges of G, respectively. The Dominating Tree Problem (DTP) searches for a minimum weighted tree in G, say DT, such that each vertex either belongs to DT or is one-hop away from DT. This problem is an NP-hard but a practical problem. The solution of the DTP is used to construct a backbone for wireless sensor networks, which have a wide usage in many industrial and consumer applications. In this paper, diffe...

Aggregate codifferential method for nonsmooth DC optimization
Tor, Ali Hakan; Bagirov, Adil; Karasözen, Bülent (2014-03-15)
A new algorithm is developed based on the concept of codifferential for minimizing the difference of convex nonsmooth functions. Since the computation of the whole codifferential is not always possible, we use a fixed number of elements from the codifferential to compute the search directions. The convergence of the proposed algorithm is proved. The efficiency of the algorithm is demonstrated by comparing it with the subgradient, the truncated codifferential and the proximal bundle methods using nonsmooth o...
