We report on a search for associated charm production in neutrino charged-current interactions in the CHORUS experiment, based on the visual observation of charmed-particle decays. The search differs from those carried out so far in which the production of c (c) over bar has been inferred from measurements of events with two or three nations in the final state, resulting from the decay of charmed hadrons. One event with a double charm-decay topology has been found and a corresponding background of 0.04 events has been evaluated. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Observation of a new boson with mass near 125 GeV in pp collisions at root s=7 and 8 TeV
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2013-06-01)
A detailed description is reported of the analysis used by the CMS Collaboration in the search for the standard model Higgs boson in pp collisions at the LHC, which led to the observation of a new boson. The data sample corresponds to integrated luminosities up to 5.1 fb(-1) at root s = 7 TeV, and up to 5.3 fb(-1) at root s = 8 TeV. The results for five Higgs boson decay modes gamma gamma, ZZ, WW, tau tau, and bb, which show a combined local significance of 5 standard deviations near 125 GeV, are reviewed. ...
Observation of neutrino induced diffractive D-s*(+) production and subsequent decay D-s*(+)-> D-s(+)->tau(+)->mu(+)
Annis, P; et. al. (1998-09-01)
We report on the first direct observation of a neutrino induced charged-current interaction with two subsequent decays of short-lived particles close to the interaction vertex. This rare double-kink signature in the CHORUS emulsion target is interpreted as a D-s*(+) production followed by the decay chain D-s*(+) --> D-s(+) gamma, D-s(+) --> tau(+) v(tau),tau(+) --> mu(+) v(mu)v(tau). The event is characterised by small Q(2) and small four-momentum transfer squared t to the target nucleon, which indicates a ...
Observation of gamma(1S) pair production in proton-proton collisions at root s=8 TeV
Khachatryan, V.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2017-05-01)
Pair production of gamma(1S) mesons is observed at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at root s = 8 TeV by the CMS experiment in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.7 fb(-1). Both gamma(1S) candidates are fully reconstructed via their decays to mu(+) mu(-). The fiducial acceptance region is defined by an absolute gamma(1S) rapidity smaller than 2.0. The fiducial cross section for the production of gamma(1S) pairs, assuming that both mesons decay isotropically, is measured to be 68...
Measurement of the cosmic ray muon flux seasonal variation with the OPERA detector
Agafonova, N.; et. al. (IOP Publishing, 2019-10-01)
The OPERA experiment discovered muon neutrino into tau neutrino oscillations in appearance mode, detecting tau leptons by means of nuclear emulsion films. The apparatus was also endowed with electronic detectors with tracking capability, such as scintillator strips and resistive plate chambers. Because of its location in the underground Gran Sasso laboratory, under 3800 m.w.e., the OPERA detector has also been used as an observatory for TeV muons produced by cosmic rays in the atmosphere. In this paper the ...
Probing color coherence effects in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2014-06-01)
A study of color coherence effects in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 is presented. The data used in the analysis were collected in 2010 with the CMS detector at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb. Events are selected that contain at least three jets and where the two jets with the largest transverse momentum exhibit a back-to-back topology. The measured angular correlation between the second- and third-leading jet is shown to be sensitive to color coherence effects, a...
