Microfacies analysis of upper devonian - lower carboniferous shallow water carbonates of the Yilanli formation in Zonguldak area, North Western, Turkey
Ahmed, Nouman; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Department of Geological Engineering (2016)
The Yılanlı Formation of Upper Devonian to Lower Carboniferous succession of the Zonguldak region were measured from Gökgöl section near Zonguldak city, NW Turkey. The studied section dominantly consists of limestone of grey – dark grey color with thin to thick beds of black shale and claystone. A variety of lithofacies identified in the studied section including limestone, dolomite, shale, claystone and mudstone. Nine microfacies are identified as grainstone, packstone, wackstone, mudstone, bindstone, ruds...
Biostratigraphy of Lower Permian foraminiferal assemblages from platform-slope carbonate blocks within the Mersin Melange, southern Turkey: Paleogeographical implications
Okuyucu, Cengiz; TEKİN, UĞUR KAĞAN; Bedi, Yavuz; Sayıt, Kaan (2020-04-01)
The Mersin Melange (MM) as a part of the Mersin Ophiolitic Complex in southern Turkey is a sedimentary complex including blocks and tectonic slices within a Late Cretaceous matrix. Two blocks (Keven and Cingeypinari) within the MM originated from the northern branch of Neotethys (Izmir-Ankara-Erzincan Ocean) and have been studied in detail using foraminiferal assemblages to correlate them with coeval successions in the Taurides and to approach the Early Permian evolution of the northern branch of the Neotet...
Micropalaeontology, biostratigraphy, and depositional setting of the mid-Cretaceous Derdere Formation at Derik, Mardin, south-eastern Turkey
Simmons, Michael D.; Vicedo, Vicent; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Hosgor, Izzet; Mulayim, Oguz; SARI, BİLAL (2020-11-01)
The micropalaeontology of the mid-Cretaceous Derdere Formation (Mardin Group) from outcrops close to the town of Derik in south-eastern Turkey is described here. In thin sections from the carbonates that form the majority of this formation, rich and diverse micropalaeontological assemblages are present. These include larger benthonic foraminifera, planktonic foraminifera, and other microfossils, including calcareous algae. Alveolinid foraminifera are particularly common and include a new species - Simplalve...
Diagenesis of Cudi group formations from Dinçer-1 and south Dinçer 1 wells, se Anatolia Turkey
Kahraman Özkan, Ayşegül; Günal Türkmenoğlu, Asuman; Department of Geological Engineering (2010)
Dinçer-1 (1968) and South Dinçer-1 (1980) exploration wells are located at Şırnak Province of Southeast (SE) Anatolia. South Fields of SE Anatolia have received a significant attention after the completion of subjected wells and numerous studies have been implemented regarding this area. Many theories about the geological generation of these fields were put forward by people who studied this region. Both wells have penetrated the Arabian Plate autochthonous units. The Cudi Group, of this sequence, mainly con...
