Geology of a Neoarchean suture: Evidence from the Zunhua ophiolitic melange of the Eastern Hebei Province, North China Craton
Wang, Junpeng; Li, Xiawen; Ning, Wenbin; Kusky, Timothy M.; Wang, Lu; Polat, Ali; Deng, Hao (Geological Society of America, 2019-11-01)
Melanges characterize Phanerozoic convergent plate boundaries, but have rarely been reported from Archean orogens. In this paper, we document a Neoarchean ophiolitic melange in the Eastern Hebei Province of the North China Craton. The Zunhua ophiolitic melange is composed of a structural mixture of metapelites, ortho- and para-gneisses, and magnetite-quartzite mixed with exotic tectonic mafic blocks of metabasalts, metagab - broic rocks, and metadiabases, along with ultramafic blocks of serpentinized perido...
Evaluation of coal and water samples from Manisa-Soma-Deniş region conccerning Balkan Endemic Nephropathy and determination of Balkan Endemic Nephropathy risk
Öztürk, Mehmet Sinan; Önen, A. Pırıl; Department of Geological Engineering (2006)
The water and coal samples from the Manisa-Soma-Deniş region were studied on the basis of their basic characteristics, inorganic and organic parameters. Coal samples were determined as low-quality lignite. They have high concentrations of arsenic, uranium and lead. The organics in the coal samples are of aliphatic hydrocarbons and their derivatives (alkanes and alcohols), methyls, phthalates, naphtalenes and benzenes. They are inactive and low in concentrations. Water samples have basic characteristics with...
Chronology of subduction and collision along the Izmir-Ankara suture in Western Anatolia: records from the Central Sakarya Basin

Western Anatolia is a complex assemblage of terranes, including the Sakarya Terrane and the Tauride-Anatolide Platform that collided during the late Cretaceous and Palaeogene (80-25 Ma) after the closure of the Izmir-Ankara Ocean. Determining the precise timing at which this ocean closed is particularly important to test kinematic reconstructions and geodynamic models of the Mediterranean region, and the chronology of suturing and its mechanisms remain controversial. Here, we document the Cretaceous-Eocene ...
Use of sedimentary structures in the recognition of sequence boundaries in Upper Jurassic-Upper Cretaceous peritidal carbonates of the Western Taurides, Turkey
Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Altıner, Demir (Informa UK Limited, 2001-08-01)
Subtidal, intertidal, and supratidal carbonate facies are recognized in the Upper Jurassic (Kimmeridgian)-Upper Cretaceous (Cenomanian) peritidal carbonates of the Fele area (Western Taurides, Turkey). Vertical stacking patterns of these facies are of a cyclical character, shallowing upward is the trend of the cyclicity in these carbonate facies. In-situ karstic breccias, collapse breccias, caliche (laminar calcrete), "Microcodium" accretion, and root casts are structures commonly indicative of third-order ...
