Wave Amplification and Resonance in Enclosed Basins; A Case Study in Haydarpasa Port of Istanbul
Kian, Rozita; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet; Aytore, Betul; Zaytsev, Andrey (2015-03-06)
The amplification of waves inside the ports becomes critical under extreme events (storms or tsunamis) by causing unexpected amplification and damage in the ports. The resiliency of harbors and coastal utilities against marine hazards is important for the post disaster recovery operations. Resonance oscillations and resultant wave amplifications inside the basins are other important adverse effects which cause damage on structures and interruption of harbor functions. Those are necessary for the post event ...
Wave drag optimization of high speed aircraft
Çıtak, Can; Özgen, Serkan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2015)
Supersonic flight has been the subject of the last half century. Both military and civil projects have been running on to design aircraft that will fly faster than the speed of sound. Developing technology and increasing experience leads to faster, more fuel – efficient, longer ranged aircraft designs. These vehicles have the advantage of shortening travelling times in the civilian role and performing missions with greater success in the military role. Aerodynamic design is the main argument of high speed a...
Wave propagation in fractured porous media
Tuncay, Kağan (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1996-06-01)
A theory of wave propagation in fractured porous media is presented based on the double-porosity concept. The macroscopic constitutive relations and mass and momentum balance equations are obtained by volume averaging the microscale balance and constitutive equations and assuming small deformations. In microscale, the grains are assumed to be linearly elastic and the fluids are Newtonian. Momentum transfer terms are expressed in terms of intrinsic and relative permeabilities assuming the validity of Darcy's...
Wave propagation in fractured porous media saturated by two immiscible fluids
Corapcioglu, MY; Tuncay, Kağan (1998-01-01)
A study of wave propagation in fractured porous media saturated by two immiscible fluids is presented, based on the double-porosity concept. The macroscopic constitutive relations and mass and momentum balance equations are obtained by volume averaging the microscale balance and constitutive equations, and assuming small deformations. Momentum transfer terms are expressed in terms of intrinsic and relative permeabilities assuming the validity of Darcy's law in fractured porous media. In the simplest case, t...
