A highly controllable, green, and rapid strategy is demonstrated for fabricating of highly sensitive non-enzymatic glucose sensing platforms. Carbon nanohorns (CNHs) were decorated onto the screen-printed electrodes. Binary nickel-cobalt sulfide (NiCo-S) nanosheets (NSs) were then deposited on CNH-casted electrodes by a facile and scalable method. Following detailed structural characterization and the electrocatalytic activity of the fabricated NiCo-S/CNH electrodes towards electro-oxidation of glucose was examined in detail. The proposed electrodes operated within two distinct linear dynamic ranges of 0.001- 0.330 mM and 0.330 - 4.53 mM with sensitivities of 1842 µA.mM−1.cm−2 and 854 µA.mM−1.cm−2, respectively. Analytical sensitivity of 467 µA.mM−1.cm−2, within the linear dynamic range of 0.5 ∼ 6 mM, was obtained for the static chronoamperometric measurements. The proposed sensor showed outstanding selectivity against isostructures and co-existing interferences, long-term stability, fast response (1.7 s), excellent poisoning resistance against chloride ions, good repeatability, and high reproducibility. The structural and electrochemical properties of the NiCo-S/CNHs were also compared to its mono-metallic counterparts. Finally, to demonstrate the capability of the fabricated electrodes for glucose measurements in physiological specimens, the glucose level was successfully measured in human blood serum, urine, and saliva samples, without any sample pre-treatment.

Microwave-assisted decoration of cotton fabrics with Nickel-Cobalt sulfide as a wearable glucose sensing platform
Hekmat, Farzaneh; Ezzati, Milad; Shahrokhian, Saeed; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah (2021-06-01)
Flexibility and human-body compatibility have been emerged through the use of commercial fabrics (CFs) in designing wearable non-enzymatic glucose sensing platforms. In this work, electrodes fabricated through direct synthesis of ternary nickel–cobalt sulfide nanostructures (Ni-Co-S NSs) on the CFs (Ni-Co-S@CFs) using a fast and facile one-step microwave-assisted method for this purpose. Fabrication was followed by the structural and electrochemical characterization of the electrodes. The glucose-sensing ab...
Active vibration suppression of a smart beam via self sensing piezoelectric actuator
Uğur, Arıdoğan; Şahin, Melin; Yaman, Yavuz; Volkan, Nalbantoğlu (null; 2009-08-17)
In this paper, an active vibration suppression of a smart beam using self-sensing piezoelectric actuator is presented. The smart beam is composed of a cantilever aluminium beam with four surface-bonded piezoelectric patches symmetrically located both side of the beam. Piezoelectric materials can transform mechanical deformation to electric signal and vice versa. This property of piezoelectric materials enables them to be used as an actuator and a sensor. In self-sensing actuator configuration, the piezoelec...
Perfect metamaterial absorber-based energy harvesting and sensor applications in the industrial, scientific, and medical band
Bakir, Mehmet; KARAASLAN, MUHARREM; Dincer, Furkan; DELİHACIOĞLU, KEMAL; Sabah, Cumali (2015-09-01)
An electromagnetic (EM) energy harvesting application based on metamaterials is introduced. This application is operating at the the industrial, scientific, and medical band (2.40 GHz), which is especially chosen because of its wide usage area. A square ring resonator (SRR) which has two gaps and two resistors across the gaps on it is used. Chip resistors are used to deliver the power to any active component that requires power. Transmission and reflection characteristics of the metamaterial absorber for en...

An electrochemical biosensor with improved performance was designed through the immobilization of glucose oxidase (GOx) onto conducting polymer of 4-(2,5-di(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)benzenamine (SNS-NH2) modified with carbon nanotubes (CNTs). For the optimization and characterization of the biosensor, pH profile, enzyme loading, reproducibility, operational stability experiments were carried out. It was found that the use of CNTs in a biosensing system enhanced the biosensor response. The linear relati...
Multi-functional metamaterial sensor based on a broad-side coupled SRR topology with a multi-layer substrate
EKMEKÇİ, Evren; Sayan, Gönül (2013-01-01)
This paper intends to demonstrate the feasibility of a miniaturized multi-purpose metamaterial sensor that can be effectively used for chemical, biological and pressure sensing in microwave and terahertz applications. This novel sensor design makes use of the double-sided split ring resonator (DSRR) topology that is modified to have an additional sensing medium sandwiched between two identical broadside coupled SRR unit cells. The resonance frequency of the resulting DSRR sensor shifts as the dielectric per...
