NONDESTRUCTIVE MONITORING OF VARIATIONS OF RESIDUAL STRESSES IN STEEL WELDMENTS BY MAGNETIC BARKHAUSEN NOISE METHOD
Gür, Cemil Hakan; Batıgün, Caner; Çam, İbrahim (2013-07-18)
Variations of surface residual stresses as a function of weld runs in API 5L X70 steel plates were non-destructively monitored by Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) method. After each weld run, MBN signal and hardness distributions were recorded. MBN signals were converted into stress values by using a specific calibration procedure. The results were analyzed by considering microstructure investigations and hardness measurements, and then, they were compared with the results of X-ray diffraction measurements. ...
Nondestructive Monitoring of Pearlite Degradation in Medium Carbon Steels by Magnetic Barkhausen Noise Method
Gür, Cemil Hakan (2017-09-06)
Cementite in steel microstructures exits in various forms such as lamellae in pearlite after normalizing, or nano-size particles in ferrite matrix after quenching-tempering, or large spheroidal particles in ferrite matrix after spheroidizing heat treatment. Any alteration in the cementite morphology influences the strength and hardness of pearlite that exists in most of the steel structures used in wide range of industrial applications. For instance, spheroidizing heat treatment is intentionally applied to ...
Nondestructive Monitoring of the Effects of Carburizing on 19CrNi5H Steel by Magnetic Barkhausen Noise Method
Hızlı, Hüseyin; Gür, Cemil Hakan (2015-06-20)
The service performance and efficient life-time of the carburized components are greatly dependent on the success of the process which is decided by the final microstructure and residual stress state. Thus, industry requests development of fast and reliable non-destructive methods for complete characterization of the products. The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) method for non-destructive monitoring of the carburizing-induced variations in steels. The...
Nondestructive determination of curing state of rubbers during vulcanization process
Ülger, C; Aydın, E; Yelbay, Hasan İlker; Kutlu, A; Gür, Cemil Hakan (null; 2018-06-15)
EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer) elastomer is one of the most widely used synthetic rubbers in several industries ranging from automotive to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Gaskets, bumpers, auto parts, auto brake systems, electrical installation, dust covers, weather stripping and conveyor belts are typical application examples. Quality control is important to ensure the rubber compound products meet the requested mechanical properties. Satisfactory properties can be obtained only by pro...
Nondestructive monitoring of the variations in microstructure and residual stress in carburized steels
Hızlı, Hüseyin; Gür, Cemil Hakan; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2016)
Service life and performance of the case-hardened machine parts are greatly dependent on the residual stress state in the surface layers which directly affects the fatigue behavior. Recently, all industrial sectors have been requested for a fast and non-destructive determination of residual stress. This study aims to monitor the variations in surface residual stress distributions in the carburized 19CrNi5H steels by means of non-destructive and semi-destructive measurement techniques, Magnetic Barkhausen No...
