Due to the conditions created by the civil war in Syria, Turkey is at the top of the migration routes of millions of people who had to leave their country. One of the striking points about asylum seekers, who are becoming more visible in the media day by day, is the representation of crimes in the media. The aim of this thesis is to critically examine the relationship between the threat perception created in the media and moral panic by analyzing the discourses presented in selected newspapers, while investigating the representation of Syrian asylum seekers in crime news. This study, adopting a qualitative design, utilizes Teun Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis as the research method and focuses on crime news where Syrian asylum seekers are portrayed as perpetrators or victims by analyzing the online content of three national daily newspapers published between 2019 and 2022.
