A Density Functional Study of Ni-2 and Ni-13 Nanoclusters
Önal, Işık; Uzun, Alper; ÖZKAR, SAİM (2009-04-01)
Ni-2 and Ni-13 clusters have been studied by means of DFT calculations performed at B3LYP level using three different basis sets. Equilibrium geometry calculations resulted in a binding energy of nickel dimer of 1.078 eV/atom for the basis set m6-31G*, showing good agreement with experimental data. Ni-13 nanocluster was found to have an equilibrium structure of icosahedral for all three basis sets in accordance with experimental findings. The intercept of the line obtained by drawing a correlation line of b...
A comparative study of deep reinforcement learning methods and conventional controllers for aerial manipulation
Ünal, Kazım Burak; Kalkan, Sinan; Saranlı, Afşar; Department of Computer Engineering (2021-2-26)
Aerial manipulation with unmanned aerial vehicles is increasingly becoming a necessity in many applications. In this thesis, we analyze the controller approaches for a bi-rotor aerial manipulator for a pick and place operation. First of all, we compare a classical control approach with a minimum snap trajectory generation and Deep Reinforcement actor-critic algorithms for the control of the aerial manipulator. Furthermore, we examine the effects of degrees of freedom of the manipulator for the Deep Reinforc...
A parametric comparative study of electrocoagulation and coagulation using ultrafine quartz suspensions
Kilic, Mehtap Guelsuen; Hosten, Cetin; Demirci, Şahinde (2009-11-15)
This paper attempts to compare electrocoagulation using aluminum anodes and stainless steel cathodes with conventional coagulation by aluminum sulfate dosing on aqueous suspensions of ultrafine quartz. Several key parameters affecting the efficiency of electrocoagulation and coagulation were investigated with laboratory scale experiments in search of optimal parameter values. Optimal values of the parameters were determined on the basis of the efficiency of turbidity removal from ultrafine quartz suspension...
A numerical study on response factors for steel plate shear wall systems
Kurban, Can Ozan; Topkaya, Cem; Department of Civil Engineering (2009)
Design recommendations for steel plate shear wall (SPSW) systems have recently been introduced into seismic provisions for steel buildings. Response modification, overstrength, and displacement amplification factors for SPSW systems presented in the design codes were based on professional experience and judgment. A numerical study has been undertaken to evaluate these factors for SPSW systems. Forty four unstiffened SPSWs possessing different geometrical characteristics were designed based on the recommenda...
A simulation study of ad hoc networking of UAVs with opportunistic resource utilization networks
Lilien, Leszek T.; BEN OTHMANE, Lotfi; Angın, Pelin; DECARLO, Andrew; Salih, Raed M.; BHARGAVA, Bharat (Elsevier BV, 2014-02-01)
Specialized ad hoc networks of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been playing increasingly important roles in applications for homeland defense and security. Common resource virtualization techniques are mainly designed for stable networks; they fall short in providing optimal performance in more dynamic networks such as mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs)-due to their highly dynamic and unstable nature. We propose application of Opportunistic Resource Utilization Networks (Oppnets), a novel type of MANETs, ...
