Investigation of the effect of orientation and heat treatment on the stress corrosion cracking susceptibility of 7050 aluminium alloy
Çevik, Gül; Doruk, Mustafa; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2004)
In the present work, the effect of variation in specimen orientation and heat treatment on the Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) susceptibility of 7050 aluminum alloy was investigated in 3,5% NaCl solution and under freely corroding conditions. For this purpose, Constant Extension Rate Tests (CERT) was performed on precracked Compact Tension (CT) specimens and the Direct Current Potential Drop technique was applied to measure the crack lengths. In addition to crack length versus time curves, the relationship ...
Investigation of fracture behavior of steel/steel laminates
Şimşir, Mehmet; Öztürk, Tayfur; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2004)
A study is carried out into fracture behavior of steel/steel laminates both experimentally and through finite element analysis (FEM). The laminates produced by hot pressing consisted of low carbon and medium carbon steels with two volume fractions; 0.41 and 0.81. Fracture toughness, JIC has been measured using partial unloading technique assuming a critical value of crack extension. The technique is initially applied to monolithic material and then to the laminates in crack divider orientation. Evaluation o...
Production and characterization of porous titanium alloys
Esen, Ziya; Bor, Şakir; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2007)
In the present study, production of titanium and Ti6Al4V alloy foams has been investigated using powder metallurgical “space holder technique” in which magnesium powder were utilized to generate porosities in the range 30 to 90 vol. %. Also, sintering of titanium and Ti-6Al-4V alloy powders in loose and compacted condition at various temperatures (850-1250oC) and compaction pressures (120-1125 MPa), respectively, were investigated to elucidate the structure and mechanical properties of the porous cell walls...
Examination of desulfurization behaviour of ladle furnace slags of a low-sulfur steel
Keskinkılıç, Ender; Geveci, Ahmet; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2007)
The aim of this research was mainly to investigate desulfurization behaviour of ladle furnace slags of a low-sulfur steel. First, the change of the amount of unstable oxides (FetO and MnO) in slags was studied from the converter till the end of ladle furnace treatment for different steel quality groups. It was found that the change in the amount of unstable oxides could be examined best with low-C steel qualities. Then, the change of activity of iron oxide was investigated for a member of low-C steel qualit...
Investigation and development of possible leaching processes for recovery of zinc and lead from çinkur leach residues
Sunkar, Ahmet Semih; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2005)
The major aim of this study was to investigate various leaching methods for the recovery of zinc and lead from blended neutral leach residues of Çinkur having a composition of 12.59 % Zn, 15.21 % Pb, 6.45 % Fe, 0.054 % Cd. Initially water leaching tests were performed at various conditions of leaching temperature, reaction time and particle size. The optimized conditions for water leaching were found to be 2 h, 95?C and 250 g/l pulp density with a final pH of 5.9. However, the zinc recovery value of 10.26 %...
