Water content estimated from point scale to plot scale
Akyürek, Sevda Zuhal; Abgarmi, Bizhan; Binley, Andrew (2017-12-11)
Soil moisture controls the portioning of rainfall into infiltration and runoff. Here we investigate measurements of soil moisture using a range of techniques spanning different spatial scales. In order to understand soil water content in a test basin, 512 km2 in area, in the south of Turkey, a Cosmic Ray CRS200B soil moisture probe was installed at elevation of 1459 m and an ML3 ThetaProbe (CS 616) soil moisture sensor was established at 5cm depth used to get continuous soil moisture. Neutron count measurem...
Water Resources Assessment of Northern Cyprus for a Sustainable Management
Hilal, Adnan Yaser Adnan; Bozkaya Schrotter, Bengü; Akıntuğ, Bertuğ; Sustainable Environment and Energy Systems (2021-2-11)
Increasing world population and industrialisation lead to a rapid rise in water consumption and demand. As a result, both surface and sub-surface water resources were overexploited in most parts of the world, including Northern Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean region over the past years. In this study, the spatial distribution and temporal variation of daily, monthly, seasonal and yearly rainfall patterns in Northern Cyprus are analysed using Concentration Index, Precipitation Concentration Index, Season...
Water-Food Nexus in Sakarya Watershed
Özel, Beyza; Başkan, Oğuz; Alp, Emre (null; 2019-06-19)
Sakarya River is the Turkey’s third longest river and the Sakarya watershed covers 8% of the surface area of Turkey. Significant agricultural activities accounts for most of the water withdrawals in the upper Sakarya Watershed. Within the scope of water-food nexus, water efficiency of agricultural irrigation have to be improved to aid sustainable water and agricultural management in the study area. The water potential and water uses were evaluated by Water Evaluation Planning System (WEAP) model in Upper Sa...
WATER QUALITY DETERMINATION OF BUYUKCEKMECE LAKE, TURKEY BY USING REMOTE SENSING AND GIS TECHNIQUES
Coşkun, Hilal Gonca; YALÇIN, GÜLER (2014-01-01)
Overpopulation has some administrative, social, economic and environmental problems in the world. Istanbul is the city with the largest population in Turkey causing pollution problems on the surface water reserves. Buyukcekmece Reservoir is one of the 8 major drinking water reservoirs of Greater Metropolis Istanbul. Buyukcekmece Watershed covers the third largest drinking water source of Istanbul, Buyukcekmece Lake. The purpose of this study is to assess the water quality changes of Buyukcekmece Reservoir u...
Hydrogeochemical modeling of waters in Mogan and Eymir lakes special environmental protection area, Ankara, Turkey
Çamur, Mehmet Zeki; Yazıcıgil, Hasan (1997-09-01)
On the basis of water-rock interactions, hydrogeochemical characteristics of spring, stream, wetland, and lake waters in the Mogan and Eymir Lakes special environmental protection area of Turkey were modeled using a reaction-path simulation method. Geochemical characteristics of surface waters, mineralogical sources of ion concentrations in the springs, mixing, and evaporation/dilution relationships between the compositions of input flows and the lakes and between the compositions of inflows and wetlands we...
