Size-Controlled Preparation of Cellulose Microspheres and Preliminary Investigation of their Use as Additives in Cosmetic Products
Türkyılmaz, Serhan; Demir, Başak Burçak; Akbulut, Doğan (2021-03-26)
Plastic microbeads (PMs) having sizes in the micrometer range (10-1000 m) are added to cosmetic products as colorants, as exfoliating agents, and as additives to improve spreadability and texture. The use of PMs in cosmetic products contributes significantly to microplastic pollution in aquatic ecosystems. Not only may PMs themselves be toxic to certain aquatic life forms, but as part of formulations of rinse-off cosmetics they may also adsorb and concentrate toxic chemicals on their way through waste wate...
Size segregated PM and its chemical composition emitted from heated corn oil
Torktnahalleh, Mehdi Amouei; Gorjinezhad, Soudabeh; Keles, Melek; ÖZTÜRK, FATMA; Hopke, Philip K. (Elsevier BV, 2017-04-01)
Characterization of the airborne particulate matter (PM) emitted from cooking components including cooking oil, and additives like salt has not been carefully investigated. This study provides new data on the concentration, composition, and emission rates/fluxes of PM (less than 3.3 mu m) generated during heating corn oil and corn oil with added table salt. The concept of emission flux was employed to estimate the emission rates in this study. A statistically significant reduction of 47.6% (P < 0.05) in the...
Size diversity and species diversity relationships in fish assemblages of Western Palearctic lakes
Brucet, Sandra; Arranz, Ignasi; Mehner, Thomas; Argillier, Christine; Beklioğlu, Meryem; Benejam, Lluis; Boll, Thomas; Holmgren, Kerstin; Lauridsen, Torben L.; Svenning, Jens-Christian; Winfield, Ian J.; Jeppesen, Erik (2018-07-01)
Body size, coupled with abundance and taxonomy, may help to understand the mechanisms shaping community structure. Since the body size of fish is closely related to their trophic niche, size diversity (based on individual body size) of fish communities may capture intraspecific variations in fish trophic niches that are not detected by species diversity. Thus, the relationship between size diversity and species diversity may help to integrate variation at both intraspecific and interspecific levels. We stud...
Size reduction in Mg rich intermetallics via hydrogen decrepitation
Aydınlı, Alptekin; Öztürk, Tayfur (2015-10-05)
A study was carried out into hydrogen decrepitation of Mg rich intermetallics, namely Mg2Ni and Mg2Cu. These intermetallics are quite similar to each other except for the fact that Mg2Ni hydrides directly forming Mg2NiH4, whereas Mg2Cu when hydrided disproportionates into a two-phase structure. A total of ten sorption cycles was applied to the alloys and the resulting size reductions were monitored. The results showed that Mg2Ni decrepitate quite fast with cycling, the greatest size reduction occurring with...
