Geomembrane-geotextile interface friction
Özdüzgün, Zülfikar Bahadır; Wasti,Yıldız; Department of Civil Engineering (1999)
Geomembrane-geotextile interface shear properties as determined by inclined board and direct shear box tests
Wasti, Y; Ozduzgun, ZB (2001-01-01)
Geomembrane-geotextile interface shear strength parameters were measured using inclined board (tilting table), standard size (60 mm x 60 mm) and large-scale (300 mm x 300 mm) direct shear box tests. Smooth and rough HDPE, PVC geomembranes and nonwoven needle-punched geotextiles were used in the experiments. Inclined board tests were conducted under a normal stress range of about 5-50 kPa on variable size interface areas. In direct shear tests the applied normal stresses were about 25-300 kPa and 110-400 kPa...
Geotechnical properties of coarse-fine mixtures and their interaction with geogrids through large direct shear testing
Ekici, Anıl; Huvaj Sarıhan, Nejan; Akgüner, Cem; Department of Civil Engineering (2022-6)
Different proportions of gravel, sand, nonplastic silt, kaolin, and bentonite were mixed to obtain ten coarse-fine mixtures (CFM) having 0%, 12%, 20%, 30%, 40% fines content (FC) and 5% and 15% plasticity indices (PI). Mixtures were evaluated to identify behavioral thresholds and address backfill restrictions in commonly used guidelines to design reinforced earth walls. All CFM specimens were initially compacted to 95% of standard Proctor dry density at optimum moisture content. Index, hydraulic properties,...
Geotechnical characterization and performance assessment of bentonite/sand mixtures for underground waste repository sealing
Akgün, Haluk (Elsevier BV, 2010-08-01)
The objective of this study is to assess the performance of a bentonite/sand mixture for the sealing of underground waste repositories through performing geotechnical laboratory tests such as compaction and flow tests. Swelling, mechanical and shear strength tests along with analyses of seal/rock mechanical interactions of an axially loaded seal in rock have been conducted to recommend an optimum compacted bentonite/sand mixture and a suitable bentonite/sand seal length-to-radius ratio (L/a) as a function o...
