Gliotoxin Biosynthesis: Structure, Mechanism, and Metal Promiscuity of Carboxypeptidase GliJ
Marıon, Antoıne; Scharf, Daniel H.; Scherlach, Kirstin; Glaser, Manuel; Sievers, Holger; Schuster, Michael; Hertweck, Christian; Brakhage, Axel A.; Antes, Iris; Huber, Eva M. (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2017-07-01)
The formation of glutathione (GSH) conjugates, best known from the detoxification of xenobiotics, is a widespread strategy to incorporate sulfur into biomolecules. The biosynthesis of gliotoxin, a virulence factor of the human pathogenic fungus Aspergillus fumigatus; involves attachment of two GSH molecules and their sequential decomposition to yield two reactive thiol groups. The degradation of the GSH moieties requires the activity of the Cys-Gly carboxypeptidase GliJ, for which we describe the X-ray stru...
Guluronic acid content as a factor affecting turbidity removal potential of alginate
Moral, Cigdem Kivilcimdan; Ertesvag, Helga; Sanin, Faika Dilek (2016-11-01)
Alginates are natural polymers composed of mannuronic and guluronic acid residues. They are currently extracted from brown algae; however, alginate can also be synthesized by some species of Azotobacter and Pseudomonas. Alginates with different proportion of mannuronic and guluronic acids are known to have different characteristics and form gels at different extents in the presence of calcium ions. The aim of this work was to investigate the usefulness of alginate as a non-toxic coagulant used in purificati...
Cholesterol oxidase biosensors based on polymer networks of chitosan/alginic acid and chitosan/p(toluenesulfonicacid)
Yapar, Elif; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Department of Chemistry (2012)
By mixing different stoichiometric ratios of chitosan with alginic acid (AA) and chitosan with p(toluenesulfonicacid) (PTSA), two new polymer networks were prepared. FT-IR spectroscopy results show the protonation of chitosan by AA and PTSA. Elemental analysis (EA) results show the composition of the networks. Thermal gravimetry analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) results were used to characterize the thermal stability of the networks. Then, cholesterol oxidase (ChOx) enzyme were immo...
