Infrared-assisted microwave drying in the production of bread crumbs
Tireki, Suzan; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm; Department of Food Engineering (2005)
This study is aimed to investigate the possibility of using halogen lamp-microwave combination oven for production of bread crumbs and to determine the drying conditions in this oven to produce bread crumbs with the highest quality. Bread crumb dough was dried from about 40.9% to 8% moisture content by conventional oven, microwave, infrared and infrared-assisted microwave drying. In the experiments 30%, 50% and 70% halogen lamp and/or microwave powers were used. As a control, conventional oven drying at 75°...
Infrared Object Classification Using Decision Tree Based Deep Neural Networks
Gundogdu, Erhan; Koç, Aykut; Alatan, Abdullah Aydın (2016-05-19)
In this work, we focus on the problem of infrared (IR) object classification by dividing the object appearance space hierarchically with a binary decision tree structure. Specially designed features of the object appearances make the binary decisions at each node of the tree. These features are extracted using a fully connected deep neural network. At each node of the tree, we train individual deep CNNs such that each node specializes in its corresponding subspace. The proposed method is tested in our gener...
INFRARED ZONE-MELTING PROCESS FOR YBA2CU3O7-DELTA WIRES
Özkan, Necati; ROBINSON, EA; FREEMAN, PA (1991-09-01)
A novel process for the continuous densification of YBa2Cu3O7-delta wires by infrared zone melting is presented. Superconducting ceramic wires with moderate porosity (20-40%) were passed through a high temperature infrared zone at a speed of 1-2 cm/min, which resulted in zone melting followed by fast solidification to give near zero porosity wires. The atmospheric conditions during zone melting had a significant effect upon the resultant properties and microstructure of the wires. The best results were o...

Infrared Microspectroscopy: A Multiple-Screening Platform for Investigating Single-Cell Biochemical Perturbations upon Prion Infection
Didonna, Alessandro; Vaccari, Lisa; Bek, Alpan; Legname, Giuseppe (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2011-03-01)
Prion diseases are a group of fatal neurodegenerative disorders, characterized by the accumulation of prions in the central nervous system. The pathogenic prion (PrPSc) possesses the capability to convert the host-encoded cellular isoform of the prion protein, PrPC, into nascent PrPSc. The present work aims at providing novel insight into cellular response upon prion infection evidenced by synchrotron radiation infrared microspectroscopy (SR-IRMS). This non-invasive, label-free analytical technique was empl...
